Eddie's Fight Against Racism in Australia
Posted by: Gointocarlton - 08-10-2021, 10:17 PM - Forum: Blah-Blah Bar - Replies (48)

As many others were, I was deeply moved by Eddie's words on Fox Footy last night, I was brought to tears in fact. He ask for our help, so lets help.
I want to do something about It and I am sure many on here would like to help also. It seems the worst environments for this abhorrent behaviour is online, guess what? We are online. There are many very intelligent people on this site, we cannot stand by and ignore Eddie and his people. What can we do? I sent Eddie a DM via instagram this morning telling him I want to help. I gave him my contact details and in the mean time, I pledged to him and all Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander people that I would call out racism in any environment I find myself in and will report it.
Nuffs enuff people, we cannot stand by and do nothing.
Any ideas?

Jim Park Voting AFL Rd 21 Carlton vs Gold Coast
Posted by: crashlander - 08-06-2021, 06:49 AM - Forum: Robert Heatley Stand - Replies (9)

I hate it when we are supposed to win well and we muck it up. Last time it was North Melbourne. I just hope it doesn't happen again!

Voting is as usual: you have 15 votes to award pretty much as you will, with the following provisos:
[1] 15 votes in total, no more, no less.
[2] No more than 10 votes for any one player (even Sam Walsh)
[3] Three players at least must get a mention.
[4] A grade for the game, A+ (what I want to see) to F-.

Post Game Passion; AFL Rd 21: Carlton vs Gold Coast

A game we should win: which means it probably isn't going to easy. We are very frustrating in that.

In Game Action: AFL Rd 21: Carlton vs. Gold Coast
Posted by: crashlander - 08-06-2021, 06:46 AM - Forum: Robert Heatley Stand - Replies (145)

The game is set for 13:45 on Saturday at Marvel and probably will go ahead with no fans, like last week. Not optimal, but we have a little more idea than some of the other clubs did.

The questions;
[1] Can our injured guys come up?
[2] Is jack going to be our full time ruck again?
[3] Can we bring the same intensity as last week?

We'll find out those answers by 16:45 on Saturday.

  VFL 2021 This weekend?
Posted by: crashlander - 08-06-2021, 06:40 AM - Forum: Robert Heatley Stand - No Replies

With Lockdown #6, it is unlikely that our 2's will play this week. Unfortunately, that is exactly what we don't need. Whichever of our emergencies doesn't get a game is going to need to play. But ...

The Boomers and Opals at the 2020/21 Olympics
Posted by: DJC - 07-29-2021, 02:00 PM - Forum: The Sports Desk - Replies (43)

The Boomers have started pretty well with two wins from two games.

It was hard to take much from the game against Nigeria.  My Nigerian former colleague, now an Aussie, said, "We had a good win over the Butterfingers" and that pretty well summed it up; lots of turnovers and very average shooting from the field and the foul line.

The win over the Italians was much better and our dominance on the boards was a telling factor.  The brilliance of young Nico Mannion kept the Italians in the contest and I think that he is going to be around for some time to come.

Is this the Olympics where we finally break through for a medal?  Promising signs so far with good performances from most of our very even squad.  Patty Mills is a key player for us but others seem to be able to step up when necessary.

Andrew Bogut's insights from the commentary box have been good and a little more critical than Andrew Gaze's.

Pre Game Promise AFL Rd21: Carlton vs Gold Coast

We should beat Gold Coast, everything else being equal. We did it earlier this year.
Circumstances have changed. We barely have enough players to make a team. Gold Coast are playing better.
We don't know when or where the game will be held yet, just that there will be no supporters there.
