  Brisbane 2032
Posted by: Lods - 07-21-2021, 09:30 PM - Forum: The Sports Desk - Replies (2)

Australia is hosting the Olympics in 2032.

(I'm sure the Chinese will do a good job...Just joking Wink  )

I wish I'd had a bet on it.
It was kind of like winning the gold medal at the Masters games because all the opposition in your age division are no longer 'kicking'.

There was a bit of excitement 'down by the river' last night ('only foolish people go, he said... 'down by the river') not a lot of social distancing and many not masked up.... but the level of excitement wasn't quite what it was at the Sydney announcement.
Even our delegation's leaps were only half hearted, and you could almost imagine  the Olympic officials thinking "sit down you dills, you've beaten no-one"

Big shout out to the Channel Nine presenters who made it all about themselves and talked all the way through the announcement with zero awareness....we had to hear it on delay.

2032....I may struggle to make it.
On a positive note my house price will go up.

....and on a serious note, well done on the bid and good luck to all the young athletes who will get to perform with the 'home ground' benefits.

  The classic/fave car thread

Here's your chance to talk about classic motor vehicles, your favourite cars or cars that played a part in your formative years.  In fact, anything to do with cars is fair game.

I'll start with my late brother's HT Holden Premier.  It had a 253 cu in V8 with a three-speed column shift, apparently a very rare combination.

I went for my licence in this car and I remember doing 100mph on the Eastern Freeway when I was on Ls - those were the days!

It was known as Kevin Henry Charles even though the number plate changed to LLL 666 and Kevin Henry Charles stayed in our family for many years as the loan car.  I had it for a while in the late 1980s when my Landcruiser was incapacitated.  My niece was the last one to borrow it and, with my brother's blessing, sold it to someone who was keen to restore it to its former glory.

It was great to drive and went like sh1t out of a shanghai when you floored it.

With Covid striking again, will this game actually happen?
Can we beat the Road Kill when they are improving and we are losing key players every week?
Stay tuned to this channel ...

We will answer the question: Can the Blues stand up this week?
Granted our team has many structural problems, but we don't have quite as many as we did last week. Can we pull out the finger?

So much for my nice seats.
So much for Charlie Curnow's return.
Hopefully the Blues can do something meaningful. God knows we need it.

Jim Park Voting AFL Rd 18 Carlton vs Collingwood
Posted by: crashlander - 07-17-2021, 03:41 AM - Forum: Robert Heatley Stand - Replies (13)

Last round was disappointing in so many ways. We not only lost a game we could well have won (had we been able to hit the side of a barn from inside), but Covid reared its ugly head and has stopped us going to this week's game.
Then there was the news about Sergio Silvagni.
It has been an absolutely crappy week which I hope we improve with a victory. It might even bring the voters out.

Voting is as usual: you have 15 votes to award pretty much as you will, with the following provisos:
[1] 15 votes in total, no more, no less.
[2] No more than 10 votes for any one player (even Sam Walsh)
[3] Three players at least must get a mention.
[4] A grade for the game, A+ (what I want to see) to F-.

In many ways the last time we played was a nadir for us this season. The Meat Pies proved that they couldn't beat anyone, and yet they defeated us in one of the more listless performances I can remember.
Well, the time has come for our redemption, but the Collingwood we play this time is definitely on the improve. It also has Grundy, who has thrashed us in recent years.
So, the question arises, can we right the wrong from early in the season? Can we overcome Grundy? We have struggled for wins against the Meat Pies now for years and have now allowed them to skip ahead of us. We lifted to play the Drug Cheats: can we do so against our oldest foe?

Voting hasn't been a high priority for people of late. Our performances made it difficult. However, with two solid wins behind us, I hope we can turn out this week as well and have a lot of players deserving of votes.
