  Our future...
Posted by: Wet Willie - 05-09-2015, 11:12 PM - Forum: Robert Heatley Stand - Replies (1)

Instead of sacking Mick, the club should announce a complete review of the player contracts and how we operate moving forward.

We have a massive imbalance of players being paid well over their worth and the rest can please themselves.

Looking at Hawthorn and Geelong etc, they pride themselves on paying everybody about the same to keep egos and jealousies in check and build a true "team" spirit...

Our top ten players are no way related our top ten contracts, and this will only cause problems long term.

For example, compare Warnock's deal to Wood.  Compare Daisy, Murphy or Gibb's deal to a Bell or Docherty...

The Judd deal is the exception to the rule because he has actually fulfilled his end of the deal...and more.

But there are others who are swanning around the club whilst their team mates kill themselves each week for a fraction of the money - and we all know who they are.

And unfortunately, it's our memberships that pay for these contracts...

The only thing left to look forward to this season according to some....

At least if the season goes as we expect, we can go watch the Northern Blues maybe get a win before leaving at quarter time vs Collingwood in round 17.

What does our club stand for?
Posted by: kruddler - 05-07-2015, 09:56 AM - Forum: Robert Heatley Stand - Replies (27)

What does our club stand for?

A simple question with a far from simple answer.

I think the club has lost its identity over the past 15 years. We can look far and wide to find our identity, but perhaps the answer is closer than we think.
So close in fact, that each and every player, coach and supporter is wearing the answer more often than not - Our clubs motto.

Mens sana in corpore sano
Usually translated to - 'A sound mind in a sound body'

I did a quick bit of research and came across its original use. Click here for more info

It is from a series of poems that were written about 1900 years ago. Our motto is from the 10th poem.

Now i'm not one to go off reading poems but in this instance, I recommend this be force fed to our players, coaches, staff and board. It is very enlightening given our current circumstance. The English translation is below.

Satire X: Wrong Desire is the Source of Suffering
It is to be prayed that the mind be sound in a sound body.
Ask for a brave soul that lacks the fear of death,
which places the length of life last among nature’s blessings,
which is able to bear whatever kind of sufferings,
does not know anger, lusts for nothing and believes
the hardships and savage labors of Hercules better than
the satisfactions, feasts, and feather bed of an Eastern king.
    I will reveal what you are able to give yourself;
For certain, the one footpath of a tranquil life lies through virtue.

People can work through that themselves, but to me that title is very apt and the take home point for me is as follows.

People who want for the wrong things are destined to suffer.
Whereas people who work hard and give all of themselves will be rewarded.

Is it too much to ask for that we live up to our own motto?

VFL Rd 4: Northern Blues vs. Frankston on Sunday
Posted by: crashlander - 05-07-2015, 02:44 AM - Forum: Robert Heatley Stand - Replies (68)

This weeks the Baby Blues play Frankston at Frankston on Sunday at 2:00 PM. I used to love going to this fixture, but as it will be up against the Brisbane game at Etihad....
I do not expect the team to be significantly stronger than last week, although Kreuzer is expected to play. I am expected Menzel to get a full game this week, depending on how his injuries pulled up. He basically finished up at 3/4 time last week and was stiff and sore. having got through training during the week I think he will play. I'd be horrified if he played seniors after 8 possessions last round.
Next week there should be a number of guys available: Byrne, Sheehan and Yarran to mention just a few. Maybe even Daisy.

In keeping with Shadesy's terrific early post match pre-game summary from Perth, sorry but I'm going early on this one!

  Back to Forward
Posted by: Lods - 05-03-2015, 10:13 PM - Forum: Robert Heatley Stand - Replies (28)

You remember in the days when you were young and the game wasn't going to plan so the coach switched all the backs to forwards. Big Grin

Let's do that.

Yarran, Buckley, Walker, Tuohy, Rowe, Jamison.....all forward.

F: Buckley, Jamison, Walker
HF: Yarran, Rowe ,Tuohy

Seriously though....we have a real problem in the forward line.
Apart from Henderson (every couple of weeks) and Menzel (when he plays) we've got nothing.
We're lacking in both tall and small forwards.

Now obviously it's not possible (and pretty silly)to move them all.
Yarran and Buckley provide that important run out of defence.

But most of those players provide something that could be useful up forward.
Walker is one that should definitely be moved. He's giving us limited value down back.
Tuohy is probably our most accurate goalkicker :Smile and if he has the ball anywhere around the 50 metre line he's a good chance.
Would he be of more value playing at half forward (either of the other two Irish lads could possible fill his spot in defence.)

At the very least send Walker and Tuohy forward.

  May vs Pac

Well there goes $300M, Mayweather on points!

Personally I thought Pac had it, May's left jabs many that were nothing more than defensive pushes shouldn't count!

This pic says it all!

Jim Park Voting Rd #4 Carlton vs. Collingwood
Posted by: crashlander - 05-02-2015, 01:36 AM - Forum: Robert Heatley Stand - Replies (19)

I don't think I have ever left a game of football feeling so angry. Even this morning I can barely contain my anger. However, some thing should be done, especially after a little while to cool down. Some of our players deserve some kudos for their efforts.

This is going to be ugly. If the rating is anything above an F I'll be amazed.

Remember:
[1] At least 3 players need to get a mention.
[2] No more than 10 votes for any one player.
[3] Give a rating of team performance. It can be anywhere from A+ to F. Please don't leave this blank. Our guys last night do not deserve the default setting (B).
[4] Votes must add up to 15.

2015-Rnd 6 Carlton vs Brisbane (Preview)
Posted by: ItsOurTime - 05-02-2015, 12:15 AM - Forum: Robert Heatley Stand - Replies (243)

Sunday, 10 March @ 15:20
Etihad Stadium (home game)

If ANZAC day tells us lest we forget, we best treat this week as best we forget and quickly move focus to the next game. Brisbane has finished off the careers of a few Carlton coaches, so looms as a nail in the coffin game - needless to say - a must win game.

I imagine Hendo and Jamo won't get up for this one and Judd looked like he was labouring a bit with that back so perhaps a question mark there.

Hate the Sunday twilight rubbish  >Sad
