  I'm back!
Posted by: DJC - 05-13-2015, 10:51 AM - Forum: Blah-Blah Bar - Replies (20)

On Friday morning I will be heading off for six weeks of outback touring.  I am going with seven other blokes in five 4WDs and, after a fairly quick trip to Central Australia, we will be travelling the Gunbarrel Highway and then the Canning Stock Route before arriving in Broome on 8 June.  Mrs DJC is flying to Broome and we'll drive back down the west coast to Perth.  We will then take the Indian-Pacific back to Perth before driving the final leg back to Melbourne arriving back in early July.

It's a little like the trip Cookie did last year but in the opposite direction.

I won't have internet access for most of the time I will be away and I doubt whether I will get to see many games on TV - not that that will necessarily be a bad thing.

I hope our footy team finds some direction while I'm away and I trust that our debates on the best way forward will continue.  Perhaps the powers that be will take on some of the eminently sensible suggestions put forward by our posters  Wink

Catch you all again in about six weeks  Smile

Sorry…guys I posted this warning 2 years back when we got Buttifant as the steak knives in the MM deal…when I spoke to a senior Collingwood playing coaching staff  member at the time he said that they were happy to see the back of DF..reckons they were 6 months behind other AFL clubs for fitness at the time and had to double the workload for 3 months in that offseason to get the list up to the required level…we were great at good 4th Qtrs under Ratts despite our skill deficiencies and almost made a Prelim after that shocker no free v Tex Walker in Perth……..cant be unfit and have no skills=17th spot 1 and 5……..players way too soft…Gibbs and Murphy 2 touches Q4…no correlation?…..I reckon we are majorly unfit…Thoughts?

Daisy Ruining Our Culture Says Brown

Quote:Jonathan Brown unloads on Dale Thomas after Carlton midfielder’s comments about Brisbane midfielder Dayne Beams

CHAMPION AFL player Jonathan Brown says Dale Thomas is on another planet after some of the Carlton midfielder’s assessments of the Blues’ disastrous loss against Brisbane on Sunday.

Thomas said in a radio interview after the Blues’ defeat that his teammate Mark Whiley had the better of Brisbane star Dayne Beams, despite Beams racking up 29 disposals, seven clearances and six inside-50s in the Lions’ watershed win.

“Dayne Beams had a bit of the football but his influence wasn’t that great. In that regard I think Whiley got the chocolates,” Thomas told 3AW.

But Brown said Thomas was out of form, and out of touch with reality if that was how the former Collingwood star saw the game.

“He did take a screamer but that’s about all he did,” Brown said.

“I hope he is not peddling out some of the stuff internally he’s peddled out after the game.

“I’m not sure what planet Daisy is on after the game but I don’t think Mick Malthouse would be really happy if Daisy is peddling out that stuff to the young blokes because that is really not setting high standards.”

Brown said on Nova 100 he couldn’t understand how Beams, a former Collingwood teammate of Thomas, having 29 disposals to Whiley’s seven constituted a victory for the Blues youngster.

“(Former coach) Leigh Matthews use to say if you win more positions on the ground than the other team you win the game of footy. Dane Beams verses Mark Whiley 29 possessions to seven possessions, who do you think won that?”

Brown said he felt for Carlton veteran Chris Judd and coach Mick Malthouse, who he said have stayed at the beleaguered club for too long.

“Imagine how poor old Juddy will be feeling, I think he got talked into playing again this year,” Brown said.

“It would be and most likely it probably will be (their final seasons). It’s not Juddy’s fault, he’s played really well, I would have thought. Obviously if they continue on this will be Mick’s last year, of course.”

Brown suggested Carlton should consider offloading a couple of experienced players in order to “get draft picks to try and rejuvenate”.

Jim Park Voting: Rd #6 Carlton vs. Brisbane

Another sub standard performance and a definite indication that we are headed for the Spoon. I really do not like this: our effort was just not good enough.
However, some guys do need a reward: Tom Bell, for example.

Remember:
[1] At least 3 players need to get a mention.
[2] No more than 10 votes for any one player.
[3] Give a rating of team performance. It can be anywhere from A+ to F. Please don't leave this blank. Our guys do not deserve the default setting (B).
[4] Votes must add up to 15.
