In Game Apprehension: AFL 2021 Rd 14: Carlton vs. GWS
Posted by: crashlander - 06-18-2021, 09:15 AM - Forum: Robert Heatley Stand - Replies (137)

I do not think we are favourites this week, even with Mumford not there. Considering the weak efforts we've seen of late, I am not surprised. Just disappointed!

I hope this week's performance is an improvement.

Jim Park Voting: AFL 2021 Rd 14: Carlton vs GWS
Posted by: crashlander - 06-18-2021, 09:12 AM - Forum: Robert Heatley Stand - Replies (10)

Voting has obviously been something of a pain in recent weeks. The continuing disappointing performances have reduced the number of voters recently.
Unfortunately, no matter how angry we may get at the under-performances, we cannot actively change them. I hope, however, that out coaches and players can respond to the negatives and get it better on the field. It would make voting a much more pleasant task.

Voting is as usual: you have 15 votes to award pretty much as you will, with the following provisos:
[1] 15 votes in total, no more, no less.
[2] No more than 10 votes for any one player (even Cripps)
[3] Three players at least must get a mention.
[4] A grade for the game, A+ (what I want to see) to F-.

Pre game Premonitions: AFL 2021 Rd 14: Carlton vs GWS
Posted by: crashlander - 06-13-2021, 01:26 AM - Forum: Robert Heatley Stand - Replies (121)

At this point it appears that we play GWS in Sydney next weekend. The game is presently set for Saturday Night at 19:25 and will probably be on TV.
It is reasonable to assume that this will go on as planned, but the AFL will do what it does.

[1] Historically we have performed poorly after the bye.
[2] We now have the review hanging over our heads like the Sword of Damocles.
[3] We have structural problems that our MC seem more than willing to accentuate.
[4] We have GWS underachieving this year as well and wanting very badly to make a point. They have an ordinary coach who wants to remain. They have a list of stars who have not performed to expectation.
[5] We are on TV. That itself is something of a surprise, as we have been on TV a lot more this year than I expected. However, we rarely win when we are on TV.
[6] We are playing guys who have not regained form and fitness through the VFL and who haven't got back to the best.

I hate to say it, but that bodes very poorly.

  AFLW 2022

Have we heard anything official yet about dates for the next AFLW season?

I've heard some scuttlebutt it may be delayed to the 2nd half of 2022, that could play in our favour with a player like Mimi Hill.

  Football Department Review
Posted by: Lods - 06-07-2021, 08:03 AM - Forum: Robert Heatley Stand - Replies (1252)

Here we go...

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/carl...2W-SUwNvhM

Quote:Carlton is set to launch an external review on the club’s football department, which is expected to decide the future of coach David Teague and his assistants.
The club’s incoming president Luke Sayers has been in Sydney with the team, where he has been conducting informal interviews with several senior players and coaches.

The review of the football department, which will be implemented by Sayers and conducted by outsiders, will begin in the coming weeks.
Several board members believed a review would take place at the end of the season if Carlton didn’t make the finals, but that process has been brought forward in the wake of poor results.

Dear all,

I am involved in some research looking at sportsmen and women's activism in sport. I have created a short survey that should only take a few minutes of your time: https://northumbria.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/...e-activism

Participation is completely voluntary, but I would appreciate hearing your thoughts on this subject area.
