| Rising Star 2017 Revisited |

We had a pretty good year for Rising Star nominations in 2017. We had five!
Marchbank
Silvagni
Petrevski Seton
Cunningham
Charlie Curnow
Folks were feeling good about the future with this core group of youngsters. For some of them 2018 was a bit of a challenging year but for one in particular there is little doubt he’ll be key part of any future Carlton side. So where are they all now in terms of the future. In your opinion what does 2019 and beyond hold for them. Where will they find and cement a spot. What areas do they need to work on to improve their chances of being a long term Carlton player.

Alleged list management guru, Chris Pelchen, has cast his eye over all 18 lists and he doesn't see a great deal of improvement from us this season as well as a slow climb back up the ladder:
Quote:17. CARLTON
It's become a perennial question – will Carlton be any better this year? While there has been much said and written about the Blues in recent years, with most of the commentary being negative, they are on the right track. Rebuilding a player list that had decayed to the extent of Carlton's was always going to be a huge task. Although it's reasonable to query some of the club's list decisions during the past four to five years, their overall direction is sound – albeit it's taking a considerable amount of time to bear fruit. And it's going to take a considerable amount more time. The Blues are still three to four years from being a finals contender again. But with the likes of Patrick Cripps, Charlie Curnow, Jacob Weitering, Caleb Marchbank, Paddy Dow, Sam Petrevski-Seton and Zac Fisher, they are building the foundations of a talented team. The arrival of Mitch McGovern and No.1 draftee Sam Walsh provides even greater reason to believe that the ship has been righted. Expect another challenging year for the Blues in 2019 but look beyond the now and focus on the horizon – it's more than just an oasis.
Movement from 2018 rankings: no movement (17th)
Three-year projected list ranking (2022): 10th
https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/ever...50y21.html
If Pelchen's 2018 rankings are any guide, we could finish in the eight
I suspect that his rankings are based on a fairly superficial analysis but I'm not disappointed at our 17th placed ranking; it's easier to exceed low expectations.
For what it's worth, I reckon we will finish in 14th place and we will be top four in 2022.

I am quite surprised to find us on TV tomorrow afternoon on 'mate'. But I am happy: we haven't got much air time on TV for a long time.

Out: R.Watt, S.Audley
Some interesting selections. Harris returning was a no-brainer. Walker is potentially a good in. And it looks like Abby McKay is getting close to her debut. Watt was a bit stiff: if she'd been able to stand up late in the game, she'd be playing this week. Audley has been ordinary so far, but I am little surprised that she was dropped. She is a tackling machine at her best.

OK, a different topic.
Some of you will be aware of the controversy regarding the proposed Apple Store to built in Melbourne's CBD. In a district that was previously allocated for arts, community and entertainment it seems a odd fit.
But if the city council is going to allow this area to become heavily commercialized, then why go half-arsed about it. I'd boot Apple and court Amazon to build a major secondary headquarters there instead! Jeff Bezos is a much better fit for the direction Australia wants to head in than Apple selling us yet another version of the same thing!
Leave the vacuous bling to Sydney and instead fill Melbourne with some substance!

| GM to dump Holden |

Looks like long suffering Holden owners/fans are to be dealt another blow with GM about to sell off Holden to Inchcape Australia who are importers of such crap boxes like Peugeot, Citroen and I think they are also the importer for Subaru.
Fair chance the Holden name will disappear and be replaced by the Opel name only and Inchcape's main interest must be to use the Holden distribution network to flog more Subaru's and save some money...cant see why anyone would want Holden on their books.
Inchcape will probably import the Opel range only or even kill off Holden for good........not that killing off Holden for good is such a bad thing, lousy cars, worst customer service along with Ford in Aus......actually Fiat/Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep is slightly worse again... My sympathies if you own any vehicles from those makers......
