  AFLW 2020 season
Posted by: kruddler - 11-26-2019, 07:23 AM - Forum: Ladies Lounge - Replies (37)

It seems one of the other teams might get a shot at the title this year.

First Erin Phillips does her knee in the Grand Final, now co-captain and superstar Chelsea Randall has done her knee on day 1 of the preseason.
https://womens.afl/news/18814/crow-blow-...ng-session
That leaves the crows with 5 girls who have done their knee in the past 12 months. List sizes are only 30 (maybe 32?) which means over 15% of their playing list is unavailable due to ACL injuries. Ouch.

If you haven’t seen it, as Molly would say ‘Do yourself a favour.....’

Draft Night with Kevin Costner is just a great insight into how the Americans deal with the draft, clubs, supporters, players, managers, families etc. it a good watch (available on Stan).

  Why will we improve?
Posted by: townsendcalling - 11-16-2019, 04:23 AM - Forum: Robert Heatley Stand - Replies (24)

At this time of the year, every club is selling hope (and memberships). Forget the spin, share 2 good reasons why you believe the team will improve this year.

1.    Better game plan on moving the ball forward, will give our emerging forward line far more opportunities.
2.    Sam Docherty to add stability and leadership in the back line.

Hi all. Just wondering if anyone is having problems loading the csc forums ? On my computer, it is the only site that I'm having trouble with. It started this morning. All other sites work fine
I can access the csc site on my phone, however.

Thanks.

  2020 Game Plan
Posted by: LP - 11-06-2019, 02:18 AM - Forum: Robert Heatley Stand - Replies (9)

Interesting now that we've seen the trade period and the various comings and goings over the trade period, the draft being of very little short term relevance in such matters, what will our 2020 game plan be?

I suspect we'll see a lot of dynamic use of the bigger bodies, McKay, McGovern, Levi, Jones and Weitering being in effect a mobile hub. I thought there were some early signs of this last season, with Teague pushing guys like Levi and McKay to get to as many contests as possible. I realise we had a few injuries to cover at the time, but that should only make it better for us in 2020 not worse. I suspect we'll run with what already worked!

We might find less dependence on Cripps and Charlie to provide a primary marking option and more emphasis on their mobility and strength to get to and be an influence at stoppages with also being the 3rd man up in marking contests when opportunity arises.

I'm not sure how to make best use of SoJ, Kennedy and Setterfield, it really depends on our smart ball use!

I'll be very disappointed in 2020 if we find opposition teams taking a lot of uncontested or defensive marks against us, it just should not happen! Further, guys like Fisher, Walsh, Newnes, Gibbons, even Ed and sMurph, should be first at the fall of the ball 100% of the time!

Pretty much our entire list of talls now has mobility as a positive relative to Mr AFL Tall Joe Average, it must mean something!

  Old Foes
Posted by: DJC - 11-02-2019, 09:32 AM - Forum: Blah-Blah Bar - Replies (6)

The better half and I thought we would take in the Northern Bellarine Arts Trail today and it was well worthwhile.

Our first stop was Bennet’s Winery where we enjoyed a delicious platter of cheeses, smoked fish and eel and cured meats (and a cheeky ????).  The works of art were displayed around the venue and one that caught my eye was “Old Foes”.  It depicted Carlton and Collingwood players involved in a melee and it captured the scene really well.  I couldn’t recognise any players but numbers 13 and 43 were prominent.  The umpires were in contemporary colours so it’s meant to be a fairly modern scene.

It really did capture the rivalry and atmosphere of a Carlton-Collingwood clash and I was tempted to buy it.  However, the thought of having Collingwood colours on one of my walls put me off ... as did the price tag.

Anyway, if you happen to be on or near the Bellarine tomorrow, drop in to Bennet’s and check out “Old Foes”.

Courtesy of Bri Davey leaving, we've got quite the bounty of picks for a team who played off in the Grand Final.

Draft is 10:40am this Tuesday.
