  AFLW R8 - Carlton vs Gold Coast @Metricon - Fri 5:10pm
Posted by: kruddler - 03-14-2021, 05:00 AM - Forum: Ladies Lounge - Replies (33)

After a solid effort against Freo, we should have an easier week this week against Gold Coast. However, we can not take them lightly as if we are any chance of making finals, we need to bury our next 2 opponents and increase our %.

Friday 'night' match is something a little different at this time of year and it will give us a short week, especially since we have to travel!
Not sure a 5-day break after a gruelling match is what we need right now, but if wanna contend, we can't make anymore excuses.

My predictions...
In: Walker
Out: Walker

I've been calling for Al Downies head the last few weeks and while she was far from impressive, her playing down back has freed up Harrington who has put in her best 2 games of the year courtesy of this.....so Downie stays....for now.

Just watched the first 35 mins before heading off to work today.  It will be compelling watching!!

There are 7 episodes, all up and ready to be watched.  It's through Amazon / Prime and if you don't haver an account 'do yourself a favour' and take out a 7 day free trial and O D on it this weekend!!

I'm sure when Amazon contacted the various clubs and players to take part, they had no idea that they would be documenting a genuine piece of AFL history....fell on their feet!!

Was the obvious choice in the finish. He's 24, has shown he can play, maybe needs a second chance.

Injury - Mimi Hill - confirmed acl

Not the news we were hoping for, but need we were expecting.

Despite not getting a rising star nomination to this point,  I think she was one of the few standouts week to week over the competion.

As an 18yo, there is plenty of time to see her come back and have a full career. Hopefully she can make it back for r1 next year

  AFLW R7 - Carlton vs Fremantle @Ikon - Sun 1:10pm

Tough ask to come up against a rampaging Freo, especially after a thumping win against the Eagles by 11 goals. But this is our task.

At least we play on our home deck.

Looks like we'll be missing Mimi Hill after her knee injury today.
I reckon Al Downie could be an out (3rd week running?) due to form and perhaps injury after her hit today.

Bring in Harris and.....i'd like to say Brooke Walker, but i think she is 1 more week away unfortunately.
They will probably bring in Jess Edwards, although i'd probably prefer to blood some new blood.....maybe Winnie Laing gets the call up to help in the midfield. Potential to welcome back Daisy Walker too.  Otherwise Courtney Jones could add some pace.

  QAnon

This is a summary of QAnon nonsense.

QAnon started with tweets from someone who took the username Q. This person claimed to be at the top levels of the US Govt and would drip-feed cryptic tweets forecasting big events. Apparently, Qhas been silent since December’s but his followers are now continuing the conspiracies w/o him/her.

A central belief is that Democrats run child sex rings and drink the blood of children during satanic rituals. The other central belief is that Trump was and is Q and he was preparing “the Storm” during which the FBI and military would round up Democrats and execute them in public. This was supposed to happen on a number of dates over the last few years, but the date would simply be moved whenever the Storm didn’t happen.

QIdiots believed Trump would declare martial law before Inauguration Day and General Flynn, a noted QIdiot, was publicly calling for Trump to declare Martial law. Then the insurrection on 6 Jan was supposed to lead to Trump’s triumphant return. Then the prediction was that Biden and the crowd attending his inauguration would be rounded up and executed (the stage erected being quickly convertible into gallows). Trump would then take the stage and be inaugurated.

Confused that there was no Storm on Inauguration Day, QAnoners tried to bend reality to suit their beliefs. One theory was that all presidencies after the 18th have been invalid because around that time Washington DC was incorporated. This supposedly meant there had been a corporate takeover of the government of the people. Inauguration Day was March 4 back then and the conspiracy theory is the Storm will occur on that day with Trump being inaugurated as the 19th President of the United States. Law enforcement tracking the chatter believe this poses a credible threat and it looks like Congress will take a day off as a result.

Another branch of QIdiots believe that Trump was actually inaugurated on 20 January while wearing a Biden mask. They point to Biden wearing masks all the time as proof: apparently Trump’s people haven’t worked out yet how to sync up the mouth with the words as yet. But wait, there’s even more evidence! Biden signed 17 Executive Orders on his 1st day in office. That just happens to be a significant number for QIdiots. It also matches the 17 flags displayed during Trump’s farewell at the Air Force base before flying to Florida in disgrace.

If anyone comes across any QAnon insanity, please post in this thread!

  Acceleration

I hope some with athletics training might be able to verify this information for me, I'd like to share it with young players if it's true.

While discussing speed and agility with a sport keen scientist she shared a bit of information with me. It was in relation to acceleration and short sprints and reaction time. Apparently, the key to some people dominating short standing start sprint trials, is that they prepare differently. Most people brace their rear leg to push of aggressively as quickly as possible but have weight over the front leg, but those who are dominant in winning short standing start sprints, even if they do not have top speed, prepare for launch by taking as much weight off their front leg as possible. Apparently this delay in getting off the line is primarily related to the time it takes to lift and transfer weight off your front leg, which can be as much as a 1/10th from zero to motion.

Can anyone with an athletics / sprint background verify this concept, I realise most won't have an extensive standing start background?

For context, she made this comment when discussing the new "Stand" rule, she said those in the know will need to make a guess about the direction change, and as such they should be quite successful at pegging opponents when they guess correctly, but no better than 50/50 if their opponents behave randomly.

FWIW, I couldn't find much searching on the interwebs, I did find the average athlete reaction time to external stimulus is about 250mS +/- 50mS, so maybe that is where the 1/10th hides.
