Rd 16: In Game Angst: Carlton vs Adelaide

1310 at the MCG. I'll be there. Somehow I do not expect a large crowd. The forecast is dire: rain, sleet, etc. I'll still be there.

Thus game was set for Ikon Park, but has again been moved to Preston. Still on Saturday at 1400.
The curtain raiser is a female game starting at 1100.

I don't know why the game is being moved. I can't imagine that the ground is in any worse condition that Preston is (the middle there is shocking). However, that is how it is working out.

  Building the women's team

According to today's Age, we lodged our five-player marquee wish-list with the AFL last week and we have prioritised former international goalkeeper Brianna Davey.  New coach Damien Keeping identified Davey as a priority after standout performances with the St Kilda Sharks in the VWFL.

Collingwood was interested in Davey but it seems that we have secured her services with the offer of a three days a week community role.

Jake King in bed with Toby Mitchell
Posted by: Mav - 07-04-2016, 02:48 AM - Forum: Blah-Blah Bar - Replies (1)

Jake King deflected the Tigers' attempts at getting him to distance himself from Toby Mitchell by saying they were just lifelong friends. Now, they are partners in a tattoo shop and King will be running it while Mitchell serves 20 months for cocaine and meth offences: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/victori...ee04a0d990, Hun.

Yes, King loves tattoos and so does Toby Mitchell.  But bikies aren't necessarily besotted with tattoo parlours because they love getting tattoos.  Tattoo parlours and carwash businesses are cash businesses which have low material expenses.  That makes them perfect for money laundering.  Drug money can go into the till and then can be declared to the ATO.  It is then legit and can be deposited in a bank.  As long as the business buys an appropriate amount of ink and retains enough tattoo artists to match the money going in to the till, the police and the ATO can't catch them out. Even better, henchmen can be hired as tattoo artists and paid a legit wage.  It's similar to the scenes in The Sopranos when Tony's crew would sit on folding chairs inside a building site to justify pulling down a wage.

If King were just a tattoo artist, he could well work inside a tattoo parlour without being tainted with that parlour's more dubious activities.  But being a partner in one with a bikie who is serving time for drug offences and running it in his absence?  Hmmmm.  But it has to be said that there is no evidence that King is involved with Mitchell's offending.

Imagine having King and Cousins in the same team.  Given the concerns the AFL has about drug traffickers targetting cashed-up young footballers, King's association with Mitchell was clearly problematic even in the absence of any proof of complicity.  Didak's ride with Hell's Angel Hudson before he shot 2 people in the city probably hastened Didak's demise but the Tigers took their sweet time before delisting King.

Rd 16: Pre Game Premonitions: Carlton vs Adelaide

Sunday 10th July at 1310 hours at the MCG. Last year we scared the pants off this mob and were extremely unlucky to lose. Adelaide are playing better, but we are actually playing football.

Jim Park Voting: Rd 15; Carlton vs Collingwood
Posted by: crashlander - 07-01-2016, 11:33 AM - Forum: Robert Heatley Stand - Replies (23)

I'll be at this one and I've missed too many this year. But at least my votes will make sense, assuming they ever make sense. Smile)

Remember:
[1] At least 3 players need to get a mention.
[2] No more than 10 votes for any one player.
[3] Give a rating of team performance. It can be anywhere from A+ to F.
[4] Votes must add up to 15.

Enjoy!

Edited now. Name is quite suitable. Sad

  New women's coach appointed

The club has appointed Damien Keeping as coach of the women's team.  I don't know anything about him but he seems to be well qualified.
