JLT 2018: Carlton vs St Kilda at Ikon on Wednesday
Posted by: crashlander - 02-26-2018, 01:39 AM - Forum: Robert Heatley Stand - Replies (466)

Our only chance to see the boys before the real stuff begins, we play the 'Aints at Carlton on Wednesday at 1905.

I haven't seen the team sheets yet, but apparently Alex Silvagni is a high probability of playing. A defence with Jones and Silvagni in it has a solid feel about it. Apparently Shaw is getting a chance to see if he can hold Docherty's spot. I am not so confident about that.

AFLW Round 5: Carlton vs Adelaide at Norwood
Posted by: crashlander - 02-26-2018, 01:35 AM - Forum: Ladies Lounge - Replies (38)

This game is on TV. Adelaide are struggling, no doubt. They were lucky not to lose to GWS.
I won't be getting to Norwood, but Sophie Li will know the ground well.

Coming into the side should be Tayla Harris, who will straighten up our forwards somewhat. Also Danielle Hardiman, our usual key defender, who we missed badly against the Dogs, and probably Katie Loynes, who has been one of our better players.

Adelaide will be depending on Phillips, who is often the person to drag them over the line. We need to keep her under control, or we are toast.

  SpecialK the new Rowe!
Posted by: LP - 02-25-2018, 08:58 PM - Forum: Robert Heatley Stand - Replies (20)

Interesting rumors floating around that we are looking at a starting line-up with Kreuzer, Lobbe and Casboult all playing.

Add Jones and McKay to that mix as all of a sudden we look like a basketball team, even with out the other KPPs.

Could the club be setting up to play SpecialK as the CHB alone side Jones?

We know SpecialK has the endurance and strength, does he still have the mobility and speed he needs to close in on marking contests?

Poor performance from an undermanned (underwomaned?) team.

But....we still have to acknowledge the girls who put in.

  Aussies aren't into meat!
Posted by: LP - 02-23-2018, 05:16 AM - Forum: Blah-Blah Bar - Replies (30)

Interesting to read comments from Woolworths claiming Australian's are eating less red meat.

I'd gather pretty comprehensive research before an executive would make such a sweeping statement.

But I wonder how many other families are like my family, and have stopped buying cheap carbon monoxide, nitrogenated and water filled supermarket meats and fish because they are rubbish!

We've gone back to the local specialist for most of our protein needs, meat from the butcher and fish from the monger. We have taken a position of quality over quantity, the stuff is just too expensive to be served rubbish. The quality difference, flavour and texture improvement was immediately noticeable, I must admit to my embarrassment I had become accustomed to the flavourless meat coming from the supermarket!  :-[

The irony is, the local supermarkets have recently "heavily encourage" food standards Australia to give all the local competing butchers and fishmongers utter buggery!

I wonder who pays for the inspector's groceries? Wink

Anyway, we'll continue supporting the local traders, bacon that is smoked and not chemically cured, wrapped around scallops that are shucked and not cookie cut!

There is something incredibly satisfying about have a small quantity, just enough not too much, of something that is really good! ;D

  The 2018 Backline
Posted by: flyboy77 - 02-22-2018, 02:43 AM - Forum: Robert Heatley Stand - Replies (4)

Even with the Doc on the sidelines, tough to get a gig in our back line this year....

KPP defenders - Jones, Rowe, ASOS, Marchbank, Macreadie, Weitering, O'Shea

3rd tall/small defenders - Willo, Simmo, Byrne, Plow, Mullett.

Who are the first few picked?

For mine - Weitering, Marchbank, Plowman, Jones, O'Shea (to play Doc's role) and Willo.

Others who watched the NBs lst year will have a much better idea than me as to whether O'Shea can play a Doc type role....?

Rowe, ASOS and Byrne very stiff. Maybe ASOS gets a gig for his hardness? But Rowe offers that too but ASOS much quicker....

Simmo to play on a wing? Who takes the slippery small forward types eg Eddie Betts?

Perhaps Willo and/or Marchbank into the midfield?

Quote:Carlton has selected North Ballarat midfielder Tom Williamson with pick No.61 in the 2016 national draft.

Williamson showed off his excellent endurance at the AFL national combine, finishing first in the agility test and second in the 3km time trial. He prides himself on his fitness, finishing top 10 in another five tests, including the beep.

Williamson is a skilful medium defender/midfielder who can break games open with his speed. He shows good awareness and footy smarts and is a prolific ball-winner.

Tom W. really was a massive steal at #61.

Did he have a knock on him at all?

JLT Series - 5 days away
Posted by: flyboy77 - 02-18-2018, 10:54 PM - Forum: Robert Heatley Stand - Replies (56)

ok, enough of the AFLW and AFLX blubber, some real footy starts on the 24th with the Blues up on Wed week (28th) at 1910 at Ikon Park vs the Sainters.

We then play the Hawks March 10th in Tassie.

Thanks God after having to endure the tripe of both the W and X games.

Given St Kilda's dynamic style of play that has made us (and even th Tigers last year) look so, so ordinary will be interesting how our new batch of fast players counter the Saints fast ball movement.

Will they resort to a shootout?

Given these are pretty much the last hitouts of substance before the Tigers in rd 1 on (Thursday) March 22, you'd expect us to name a near full strength team on both dates?

Obvious ins - Murph, Crippa, SPS, Curnows (x2), Levi, Big Harry, Jones, Plow, Garlett (imo), Simmo, Wright, Weiters, Special K.

There's 14 - throw in Dow, Fisher, Marchbank, Pickett, Willo, Byrne, SOJ.

Last spot?

Daisy? ASOS? O'Brien? Kerridge? Lang (if fit?)
