AFLW 2024 Rd 7: Carlton vs Fremantle at Freo
#1
Not favourites again this week. Freo playing well and may play finals. We're going nowhere fast.

Our line-up:

Carlton
B:  [27] Gen Lawson-Tavan  [21] Harriet Cordner
HB:  [6] Gab Pound  [9] Kerryn Peterson  [10] Mimi Hill
C:  [36] Ciara Fitzgerald  [5] Abbie McKay  [4] Keeley Skepper
HF:  [25] Keeley Sherar  [3] Darcy Vescio  [26] Tarni Brown
F:  [14] Marianna Anthony  [12] Jessica Good
R:  [16] Breann Moody  [18] Madeleine Guerin  [20] Lily Goss
Int:  [34] Taylor Ortlepp  [15] Meg Robertson  [23] Lila Keck  [22] Mia Austin  [17] Dayna Finn

EMG:  [8] Celine Moody  [29] Jade Halfpenny  [13] Lulu Beatty

Having Peterson and McKay come back is a big positive for us.
I don't think we'll miss Dal Pos much: she's struggled since she's got here. Duursma ... I hope she'll get better, considering that we traded for her.
Meg Robertson looks reasonable: she appears to be a decent pick-up. Maddy Guerin has made a decent return, but isn't consistent yet.
We really need a lift in the ruck: hopefully, Moody will show what she's capable of. Our forward line is not looking strong.

Kicked the last couple of goals pretty late, last one with 50 sec to go, to pinch it out of no-where.

Just one game out of the 8. Our ripping percentage of 47.6% won't help though.

Big game by a couple of our mids and Cordner in defence.
Maddy Guerin 24 possessions - most on the ground.
Abbie McKay - 20 possessions.

Frustrating game to watch, for amount of times the girls worked hard to get possession only to turn around and run directly into a pack of freo players was infuriating, tbh. And the amount of times they kicked to a contest of 1 on 3/4 was equally as frustrating!

Good win in the end but must say I was generally disappointed by the lack improvement I saw overall in decision making.

Good to get a win, particularly on the road, but that was more arse than class ?

I guess you make your own luck …

That goal from Keeley was a ripper. And the incredible work from Darcy before that to create an opportunity for Moody was simply fantastic. Didn't see much of the game but the last qtr was a real confidence booster for this gutsy group of gals. Bravo.
Only our ruthless best, from Board to bootstudders will get us no. 17
