Post Game Passion; AFL Rd 18: Carlton vs Collingwood

It was just me watching until half way through the third, then the rest of the family joined in.  It was great.  There were some solid efforts by heaps, but the energy and enthusiasm grew.  Family didn't like how anxious I was until we were 4 goals up!

As a note, Dow has always been really strong in the hips - now he has matured, he gets through some tackles pretty well.

I wish I shared your strength to absorb mental torture.  I had had enough by the end of the first quarter, turned off the tv and drowned my sorrows with a pleasant bottle of red.

All too late I found out we had won.  Fortunately I was able to see a replay at 1am today.

I reckon TDK's contribution, from midway through the 2nd quarter, was instrumental in the turn around - impressed me much.

Just watched the replay. A few observations:

- we are not dependent on Cripps
- Kennedy and Dow's time in 2's pays off
- Natural growth of many is now on show
- Walsh ? nope, got nothing
- TDK learning on the run, needs support
- SOS Strong yet vulnerable. Fallible yet brilliant. Above all a natural tenacious footballer who is loved and respected at CFC
- Weiters Jones and co are a team within a team
- 1:1 had Weiters grinning like a Cheshire cat
- Stocker developing rapidly. Future leader. Support for SOS post game was touching
- New recruits settling in
- H is for holy sh&$ wait till he plays with Charlie
- Eddie's an eternal gift to AFL
- Effort becoming more consistent
- Lapses reducing
- Goal kicking a priority
- Umpiring slightly favoured us ?
- Most parts are in place. Next is to play together. Then the rise ?
- We're becoming an attractive destination club. Like it or not - AFL boys club (too much??)

You would hope not; it was a perfectly executed bump within the rules and there was no high contact.  Of course, with Michael Christian, you never know  :Smile

Only Fisher and Adams fined?  Stocker, Mihocek, and possibly others, were willing participants  :o

Kennedy and Dow must play for the rest of the year.  Something building there.  Funny how when Crippa isn't playing, it gives others the chance to show their wares.
TDK has played 17 games of senior footy, but held his own against one of the best.  Needs to spend the summer in the gym.
Stocker will be a gun - close to our best kick atm.
Silvagni will only be better when he gets 3rd or 4th defender instead of #2.
Weitering and Walsh a lock for AA selection.  2 games in 3 weeks Walsh seals a win with a stunning goal.
Saad and Williams now providing drive instead of running around in circles.
Only kick to Harry if he can mark it 50 out on a 45 deg angle - doesn't seem to miss from there.

Still a long way off serious contention, but the darker clouds are starting to part.  Just wish we could have those games against Sydney and WCE all over again.
This is now the longest premiership drought in the history of the Carlton Football Club - more evidence of climate change?

Jack Martin's performance was a huge improvement and a factor in our win but two votes in the AFLCA award?  They're having a laugh  :Smile
