The myth that the world was safer/better/more peaceful during the 45th US presidency!
Leaving aside the POTUS's disastrous handling of COVID and the global flow on effects, some of the lowlights of the 45th presidency were:
- The US withdrawing from the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
- Rolling back the Obama administration’s rapprochement with Cuba.
- The US recognising Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
- Increased US support for the Saudi and UAE-led intervention in the war in Yemen. The POTUS repeatedly used his veto to override bipartisan majorities in Congress that tried to stop US military involvement and block the flow of arms to the conflict.
- Undoing the successful Iran nuclear deal.
- The illegal assassination of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani that brought the US and Iran to the brink of war and led to the mobilisation of millions of troops. Iran's restraint averted a catastrophic war.
- The launching of 59 cruise missiles against Syria in 2017.
- US drone strikes in Somalia and Kenya.
- Authorising the CIA to launch drone strikes without permission from the White House or the Pentagon.
- The POTUS tore up the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, withdrew from the Open Skies Treaty and failed to extend the critical New START Treaty with Russia ... and he wanted to nuke hurricanes!
- The POTUS adopted an inconsistent and often antagonistic approach to North Korea that came very close to nuclear war before the POTUS kissed and made up with "Rocket Man".
- The Abraham Accords, negotiated by Jared Kushner (who pocketed $2B), set the scene for the current war in Gaza.
- The disastrous surrender deal with the Taliban.
- The trade war with China.
- The US abandoning the Paris climate accord.
- Last but not least is the POTUS’s bromance with Vladimir Putin. As former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe sees it, the POTUS is effectively a Russian asset.
“Why don’t you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don’t you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don’t you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?” Oddball

That didn't happen. He threatened Kim Jong with fire and fury then they shook hands and little Kim stopped firing rockets near Japan. The world was safer when Trump was in power.
I think one needs to tread warily when making these conflations. There's no data that I can find, no rhetoric, no actions, no plans, no "concepts of plans", that supports the idea that Trump has any kind of commitment to making the world better or safer.

He says he's going to stop the wars...
He may very well do that.

Yes, well, Trump says a lot of things. The chances that he will take on the might of the US military industrial complex is virtually nil IMO.

I heard Norman Finkelstein a couple of months back, talking about how Biden was pissed about being bumped for the top job, and publicly endorsed Harris as an act of spite, knowing that the Democrat kingmakers (Pelosi, Schumer, Obama) considered her a subpar nominee, and that they wanted to run their own internal process to find a suitable replacement.

The reason is unlike the typical politician he doesn't care how he appears in public or in the media. He can be crude even rude but says it off the cuff and if you can look past that hes record as President speaks for itself.
The US economy was stronger, and the world was safer as the real nutters were too afraid with Trump in power where the Dems are seen as weak and a pushover and bully's love a pushover so hence why things on the world stage escalated in the last 4 years.
The lefties will spin it but the fact is many say he is the next Hilter etc yet fact is there was NO new wars during his last stint.
He will solute in a weeks time and we all will be better for it

There's no data anywhere that support the idea that Trump is tough, brave or fearless. Starting from his pathetic attempt to dodge the draft, through decades of sucking up to the rich and powerful, evading responsibility and accountability for all transgressions, picking on minority individuals and groups that either won't defend themselves or lack the resources to do so, picking fights only to let others do the dirty work, and on it goes. Yeah, real tough guy.
Can confirm that Trump Derangement Syndrome has hit our shores.

Are you sure you want to confirm that...it kind of goes against what I think you believe

Quote:Let’s start with what Trump Derangement Syndrome means.
Urban Dictionary offers up this handy definition: “Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) is a mental condition in which a person has been driven effectively insane due to their dislike of Donald Trump, to the point at which they will abandon all logic and reason.”
Justin Raimondo, the editorial director of Antiwar.com, wrote a piece in the Los Angeles Times in 2016 that broke TDS down into three distinct phases or stages:
“In the first stage of the disease, victims lose all sense of proportion. The president-elect’s every tweet provokes a firestorm, as if 140 characters were all it took to change the world.”
“The mid-level stages of TDS have a profound effect on the victim’s vocabulary: Sufferers speak a distinctive language consisting solely of hyperbole.”
“As TDS progresses, the afflicted lose the ability to distinguish fantasy from reality.”
