You seem to have an aversion to facts, some vague reference to "they" as in "they the left" I presume!

You do realise this is caused by a legislative council policy enacted under Jeff Kennett, it seems Jeff was expecting to make the 3000 days cut-off, but failed, ................... missed it by that much!

Quote:Each premier since 1933, apart from Ian Macfarlan, who only served for 51 days, has had a portrait commissioned for the Victorian Parliament's portrait collection. The tradition was initiated by Legislative Council President Fred Grimwade.

Premiers who hold the office for 3,000 days are granted a statue as a commemoration of their legacy. Five premiers, Daniel Andrews, Henry Bolte, John Cain Jr, Albert Dunstan, and Rupert Hamer, have achieved this milestone and four have their statues near the premier's office at 1 Treasury Place.

That statue for Andrews is going to cost $100k or even more, when the state has the worst debt in the country and The 2024–25 Victorian Budget forecasts net debt will grow from $156.2 billion on 30 June 2025 ( $3.3 billion higher than the 2023–24 Budget Update forecast) to $187.8 billion by 30 June 2028. This reflects annual on average debt growth rate of 6.3% per year, Revenue is expected to only increase by 3.6%....why waste $100k on the clown that got us into so much debt, he should do the right thing and reject the statue and put the $100k back into a charity where it will do some good.

Mind boggling stuff EB.

His appointment to chair of mental health organization is even worst imo. Its as sad as it is comical considering the effects on mental health of young Victorians due to the tightest lockdown laws for any place on EARTH! Locked up play grounds, golf courses fishing in a boat in the bay, couldn't even go for a drive in your car. Couldn't even go for a walk around a park at one stage! Yet all that and the knob still manages to botch the quarantine and kill over 800 people while the rest of Australia were sitting under 50.  Imagine how parents who lost children to suicide during his ruin would feel about this decision.

Be great if on his first day he is greeted in the foyer by the young man left mangled under the Andrews SUV.

And still there are those that adore the bloke. I suppose Hitler and Saddam had followers that would die for them so i guess all dictators have there support regardless of what they do.

Sorry for the cynicism, but it seems quite bizarre how Andrews managed to get elected so many times given pretty much everybody now seems to claim they wanted him gone long ago!

I don't care on which side of politics they sit, if they manage to qualify then they qualify. All Victorians had the opportunity to vote him out, and didn't, the shallowness is in the retrospective assessment. Wink

FWIW, I suspect the portraits are just as expensive.

Can we please keep on topic? Dan’s statue will have no bearing on the US elections!

Mitch McConnell’s soon to be released biography doesn’t hold back on his thoughts on the former POTUS, describing him as a “despicable human being,” “stupid” and “ill-tempered."  Among many other damning criticisms, McConnell said that the 6 January insurrection was “further evidence of Donald Trump’s complete unfitness for office."

Other comments include:

“I think Trump was the biggest factor in changing the Republican Party from what Ronald Reagan viewed and he wouldn’t recognize today.”

“Trump is appealing to people who haven’t been as successful as other people and providing an excuse for that, that these more successful people have somehow been cheated, and you don’t deserve to think of yourself as less successful because things haven’t been fair.”

“Unfortunately, about half the Republicans in the country believe whatever he says.”

McConnell is the GOP Senate minority leader and about as far from a flakey left winger as you could get.
“Why don’t you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don’t you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don’t you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?”  Oddball

I tend to agree Paul; and how could a person of good faith support someone who they believe is unfit for office?

I guess he’s a bit like JD Vance in that the latter went from vehement opposition to running mate in the blink of an eye.

I think that expediency and an eye for the main chance is more acceptable in US politics.

One of McConnell’s statements that did ring true was where he said that Aurangzeb supporters tended to be less successful and believe that they’ve been cheated.  That certainly seems to be the case with at least 90% of the MAGA supporters that I have seen interviewed … unless the “fake news” media only puts to air those that are as dumb as dog sh1t ?

The grievances that the American working class have with the Democrats and Republicans are very real and very justified. I don't blame the public for feeling abandoned and cheated - they have been. But neither party is committed to addressing the issues, and when you throw in the dismantling of education, social services, bought politicians on both sides, News Ltd., the NRA, culture wars, a figure like Trump is the inevitable result. When the real world is untenable, then you resort to fantasy.
