Trumpled (Alternative Leading)
So the most powerful nation on the planet has a choice between a senile duffer and a megalomaniac for their President?

Which is the lesser of two evils?  Which one would do the most damage?
This is now the longest premiership drought in the history of the Carlton Football Club - more evidence of climate change?

You could argue (in a roundabout way) that Biden is the greatest threat to Democracy because by staying in the race he gives Trump a good shot at victory.
With the right decision he can save the day  Big Grin  Big Grin

Trump....Biden's team would make all the moves unlike with Trump who actually thinks he has the answers himself and knows what he is doing. Inflation, cost of living, interest rates,  deficit ,exchange rate, unemployment  are all tipped to rise if Trump wins as he wants to stick tariffs on everything and play hardball with China while holding hands with another nutter in Putin. Tougher economic conditions in the USA will have a flow on effect everywhere else including here..

Both parties are total shite, for similar and also different reasons, but Trump would be much worse. No question.

The overriding fear is, after seeing what he tried to do last time, that he will take full control with the help of his MAGA supporters.

He isn’t elected by GOP and the only way they can exercise any control is by not passing budget bills and/or impeachment.  That might prove difficult if MAGA is occupying the House and Senate.
You know when the US has been in similar predicaments in the past they have a unique way of sorting it out.

If I was Trump and I get re-elected, I'd be pulling my head in! :o

Generally because of the character and values of the incumbent.

However, the Nixon years provide a good example of what can go wrong.  Nixon’s administration was terrified that the Democrats were planning to take control of the country.  Their illegal actions were intended to stop that happening.

It was insiders and the media rather than the political parties, representatives, senators and judiciary that stopped Nixon.

If Aurangzeb is elected, the last thing he’ll do is pull his head in.  It will be full on retribution, encouraging MAGA, shoring up a favourable Supreme Court, pardoning accomplices and corrupting the electoral process.

Reality is, no matter who runs and who wins (Biden/Harris or Trump) the US is the loser. Said it before and I'll say it again, this time differently... they're all phlegm balls in the sore throat of leadership.

Nice turn of phrase Shane ?

The situation would be funny too … if it didn’t have such serious implications.

The bottom line is that the Democrats have no power to address the situation.  It’s up to Biden whether he runs or steps aside.  The only similar situation in modern times is LBJ deciding not to run because he realised that he had no chance.

The difference is Johnson still had the faculties to know he couldn't win.
Joe doesn't...and those closest to him are not helping him come to that conclusion.
