  Teenager in the 70’s?
Posted by: townsendcalling - 10-16-2020, 09:48 PM - Forum: Blah-Blah Bar - Replies (2)

If you were a teenager in the 70s you might be interested in a podcast I came across ‘Pilots of the Airwaves’ where old DJs chat about the ‘good old days‘ of 3DB, 3XY, 3KZ, 3UZ etc. This week it’s Lee Simon talking about XY and Rocktober....(used to be the best month of the year!)

How do you think the Carlton Players will Poll in the 2020 Brownlow Medal?
Posted by: Inboltswetrust - 10-15-2020, 12:36 AM - Forum: Robert Heatley Stand - Replies (4)

I've complied my votes for the Carlton players as I think they will poll in the 2020 Brownlow Medal.  My algorithm factored in many things including stats, 'eye' observations, opposition team contributions and umpiring bias.

Here they are:

S Walsh 13
P Cripps 11
J Martin 7
E Curnow 7
S Dockerty 4
M Gibbons 3
Murphy 3
Mackay 2
L Casbolt 1
E Betts 1
W Setterfield 1
Weitering 1

By my calculations, we actually we polled quite a lot- 54 votes.

Notice I have Casbolt getting a vote in round 4 v Essendon!  He booted 3 goals in the wet that night, had 14 touches (7 contested), 228 metres gained, took 9 grabs and pinch hit in the ruck for 6 effective tap outs.  A big game indeed by the Bolt. Sportsbet has offered me 10-1 for him to poll a vote.  I'm on.

Nice effort by Walsh to win it ($1.70) Sportsbet and ($1.80) on Ladbrokes to poll more than Crippa.

Your thoughts?

  Goal kickers 2020
Posted by: kruddler - 09-24-2020, 11:58 AM - Forum: Robert Heatley Stand - Replies (8)

OK, so Lods didn't do his list this year and i don't think its had much coverage otherwise, so i thought i'd compile a fwe things re our goalkickers for 2020.

Firstly, Harry McKay wins it and is our first dual winner since Eddie Betts in 2010+2012, and our first back to back winner since Fev in 2008+2009.

He won it with 21 goals, which is our lowest total since 1964 when Ian Nankervis won it with 18. Incidentally, thats the last time the Dees won a flag.  :o Although to be fair to Harry, it was a shortened season....and he did miss games.

So here is our Top 10 list.....(conversion G+B) [Adj. Conv: G+B+misses]
21.15 (58%) [43%] - Mckay (13 games) @ 1.6 goals/game
16. 8  (66%) [46%] - Casboult (17) @ 0.94
13. 4 (76%) [72%] - Newnes (17) @ 0.76
13.13 (50%) [39%] - Betts (15) @ 0.87
12.11 (52%) [43%] - Martin (15) @ 0.80
11. 6 (65%) [52%] - Gibbons (15) @ 0.73
9. 2 (82%) [56%] - McGovern (12) @ 0.75
8. 4 (67%) [61%] - Walsh (17) @ 0.47
7.11 (39%) [33%] - Cripps (17) @ 0.41
6. 6 (50%) [40%] - Cuningham (12) @ 0.50

Fun fact the following defenders all had at least 1 shot on goal this year
Plowman (3 shots)
Williamson (2)
Jones (2)
Docherty (1)
Simpson (1)
Weitering (1)
Polson (1)

Yet only Williamson (1.1) and Simpson (1.0 in his last game!) were able to find the big sticks

That is a backline total of 2.8....which is perhaps why they are in the backline. Wink
FWIW, SPS didn't have a shot on goal.

Lets see what a difference it makes in 2021 with Charlie pushing Harry for top honours...

Who would you vote for in a State Election if held this weekend 28/09
Posted by: mateinone - 09-22-2020, 12:10 AM - Forum: Blah-Blah Bar - Replies (48)

So if there was a state election this weekend, would you vote for Dan Andrews and his government or would you be voting for someone else?
The third option is for if you are voting Independent for another smaller party, or even possibly one of Greens or Liberal Party, but you won't be voting for Dan Andrews

Jim Park Voting 2020 AFL Rd 18: Carlton vs Brisbane
Posted by: crashlander - 09-19-2020, 01:43 AM - Forum: Robert Heatley Stand - Replies (17)

We are on TV again, the highlight of Saturday night viewing. Does not bode well, but ...
There will be someone who will deserve votes. And these votes may well determine who will win this year's Jim Park Award.

[1] 15 votes in total
[2] No more than 10 votes for any one player (even Cripps)
[3] Three players at least must get a mention.
[4] A grade for the game, A+ (what I want to see) to F-.
