Well any doubts about Keeley Sherar being the right pick are probably dead and buried now.

Good win by the girls.

Jess Good has improved out of sight.  Two rucks who have an impact around the ground and on the scoreboard make us hard to beat.

Gab Pound must be having her best season.

  AI and creativity.

I’m not sure how fair dinkum this is.
Maybe some of the more technical of us can verify it, but if it’s true you can understand the concerns of folks like scriptwriters, actors and musicians over the impact of AI on their intellectual property.

There’s often a debate over the best lead singer of some of the big power ballad groups of the 70s and 80s.
Often the popular choice is Freddie Mercury.
My personal favourite is Steve Perry of Journey.

Has AI made it possible for a more direct comparison.
The Mercury clip is still a little ‘tinny’ but time will only improve the quality as the technology improves.

Pick your best 22 - PART 7 - End of season
Posted by: kruddler - 10-01-2023, 11:17 AM - Forum: Robert Heatley Stand - Replies (21)

OK, so here it is, the final 'best 22' for the year.

We've seen how the side performed in finals.
We saw what worked and what didn't all throughout the year.
Using all the information we got, who is in your best 22 now.

Lets assume all players are fit (excluding Williams and Philp to be consistent)
Lets assume all players are still on our list (including delistings, retirees and potential trades)

Pick your best 22.

7 minutes in and I have seen about 30 dangerous tackles by AFL standards.

AFLW 2023 Rd 5: Carlton vs Sydney at Carlton
Posted by: crashlander - 09-29-2023, 12:33 AM - Forum: Ladies Lounge - Replies (7)

Carlton play Sydney today at 16:05 at Carlton.
We have 2 debutants this week.

Backs: Amelia Velardo  Vaomua Laloifi
Half-backs:  Kerryn Peterson  Harriet Cordner  Gab Pound
Centreline:  Keeley Skepper  Abbie McKay  Brooke Vickers
Half-forwards:  Mia Austin  Breann Moody  Erone Fitzpatrick
Forwards:  Darcy Vescio  Jess Dal Pos
Followers:  Jess Good  Mimi Hill  Keeley Sherar
Interchange:  Daisy Walker  Lily Goss  Dayna Finn  Ciara Fitzgerald Phoebe McWilliams

Emergencies: Imogen Milford Maddy Hendrie Tay Ortlepp

INS: Daisy Walker, Dayna Finn, Ciara Fitzgerald

OUTS: Tay Ortlepp (omitted), Maddy Hendrie (managed), Marianna Anthony (injured)

NEW: Dayna Finn (debut) and Ciara Fitzgerald (Carlton debut)

We will miss Marianna Anthony, who gets more tackles than she does kicks.
I'd hope to see us play better than we did against Sydney in the practice match.

Gab and Boydy on the squid

I'm not sure what to make of this:

https://www.carltonfc.com.au/video/14233...3797114001

It's amusing, but an odd pairing and not a pastime I'd expect these two to embrace.  Their reactions to the squid suggested that they weren't entirely comfortable.

I wonder whether it was spicy stir-fry, salt and pepper squid, or Greek-style with lemon, garlic and olive oil for dinner  :-\

  2023: A review
Posted by: crashlander - 09-23-2023, 11:20 AM - Forum: Robert Heatley Stand - Replies (49)

With our season over, disappointingly, we will now have to turn our attention to 2024. In the immortal words of Arnold Schwarzenegger (and general Douglas McArthur), 'we will be back'!

It is now time to digest what we've achieved and where we've failed.
[1] Considering that we were 15th not that long ago, with some of the worst losses we've endured in recent times, getting to 3rd was an amazing achievement. Teams feared us (at last!) and they needed to.

[2] Michael Voss has lost his Preliminary Final. I'm sorry we couldn't do it for him, but we have done things in the last couple of months that looked impossible halfway through the season.

[3] We turned the worst forward line in the competition into one that didn't just have 2 towers.

[4] We haven't really played that well for some time, but we still kept on winning. That wasn't a fluke: that has hard work and belief.

I'll have more to say when I get over the loss.

Jim Park Voting 2023 AFL Preliminary Final Carlton vs Brisbane
Posted by: crashlander - 09-22-2023, 08:03 AM - Forum: Robert Heatley Stand - Replies (14)

Voting is as usual: you have 15 votes to award pretty much as you will, with the following provisos:
[1] 15 votes in total, no more, no less.
[2] No more than 10 votes for any one player (even Sam Walsh or Patrick Cripps)
[3] Three players at least must get a mention.
[4] A grade for the game, A+ (what I want to see) to F-.
