This morning Watson and Lyon were rabbiting on about the fixture, marquee games and Carlton being undeserving.

Since we started opening the season vs Richmond, here are our attendances and match margins:
2015.    83493.  27 pts
2016.    75706.  9 pts
2017.    73137.  43 pts
2018.    90151.  26 pts

Ave attendance 80600.  Ave margin. 26pts

They were putting Geelong vs Hawthorn ( Easter Monday) as a ‘cracker’ and example.
2015.    73584.  63pts
2016.    74218.  30 pts
2017.    62360.  86 pts
2018.    73189.  1 pt

Ave attendance.  70800.  Ave margin 45pts

As well they highlighted Queen’s Birthday C’wood vs Melb
2015.    66120.  25 pts
2016.    60158.  46 pts
2017.    70926.    6 pts
2018.    83518.    42 pts

Ave attendance 70100. Ave margin  30 pts

  When Actors claim Defamation!
Posted by: LP - 10-30-2018, 01:12 AM - Forum: Blah-Blah Bar - Replies (26)

Not a football topic, but yet topical in recent times.

I've had this concern for sometime, but when professional actors claim defamation, and the witnesses and defendants are also professional actors. In an industry that rewards publicity be it good or bad, who do you believe?

In the Rush case, it looks to me like it is potentially a win / win on all sides except the media, that is a worry. The accuser wins because they have a massively increased profile, Rush wins because he probably gets a settlement to cap a career as it nears an end. The similarities are strong between the Rush case and the Wilson case.

Movements like #MeToo are a worry, too many people benefit from the notoriety that comes from being part of it. being raped, molested as a child and abused has become the norm for Hollywood types, there is hardly a one who claims to be free of such events?

Also, cases that are inherently subjective like the determination of subjectively offensive comments racial vilification under various statutes, etc., etc...

Can courts really decide on such subjective issues when the witness list comprises professional actors or vexatious litigants? Should the courts even try?

I think the recent David Penberthy article about Mumford in context of the media hypocrisy regarding drug use really highlights this issue. Also that erroneous broadcast by Hunchy and Barrett. For a long time the media as vehemently adhered to the strict regimen of never hunting their own, but David Penberthy violated that rules and even although I suspect he now finds himself as a pariah it's probably for the good!

  Winx

Firstly I know SFA about horse racing but I think the great mare Winx deserves a special mention after winning Cox Plate no 4 and 29 wins straight.
I don't know what it is about horse racing but the very special ones get me all emotional when I watch them do their thing. Winx, Black Caviar, Makybe Diva and Kingston Town are the ones that bring a tear to my eye, not sure why. I don't know if anyone watched the race yesterday but at around 100m to go, when she the field well and truly beat, she turned her side ways (ala Usain Bolt) and looked at the crowd as if to say "I'm the best". What an amazing athlete and at $22,934,924 in prize money, she is no 2 in the world all time (only by a million or two), not bad for a $230,000 investment.
Bravo (or rather Brava) Winx.

Always gamble responsibly.

I’m just raising a glass of bourbon to the memory of Tony Joe White and listening to “Rainy Night in Georgia”.

A great musical talent and, by all accounts, a great bloke.

RIP

Not as well publicized as the Men's, but very important for the 2019 season. It is on at the moment.

Very interesting article on the AFL's website.

To say we scored poorly is a profound understatement. We are seriously on the nose, fortunately we have 2019 to rectify this. Much, much, much work to be done!

First ever father/daughter selection - Abbie McKay
Posted by: kruddler - 10-12-2018, 11:23 AM - Forum: Ladies Lounge - Replies (10)

https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/womens-...7dc2209966

Quote:CARLTON has made history, drafting Abbie McKay as the first ever AFLW father-daughter pick.
McKay, the daughter of club great Andrew McKay, will join the Blues for the upcoming AFLW season.

Clubs had an opportunity to bid on the younger McKay before 2pm Friday.

As multiple clubs placed a bid on McKay, Carlton elected to match the offers and will now select the teenager with Pick 16, a second-round pick, in this year’s AFLW draft.

Good news.

  Best team.....and next best
Posted by: kruddler - 10-10-2018, 08:05 AM - Forum: Robert Heatley Stand - Replies (66)

OK, so i got bored waiting for stuff to happen, so i did this exercise most have done plenty of times before.

Pick your best team.

....and pick your next best team....your 2nds.

Now we still have a few spots on our list, so i limited it to 18 each, which also allows you to fill your bench with the best of the second lot.
FWIW, I didn't include any rookies (well, not good enough anyway) and i didn't include Byrne because....well he's barely a Carlton player at this point in time.

I think everyone else fits in there nicely....even with the 2 new additions McGovern and Fasolo.

Yes, Walsh and Setterfield are likely too, but we'll wait for that to through first Wink
