I waited til now as I didn't want to put a downer on everyone's Christmas but sadly my father passed away on Christmas Day, so it's been a Christmas tinged with sadness though he's now free of a body that was very unwell and extremely limiting - especially frustrating for him as he had all his mental faculties and was lucid and joking up until December 23rd. He deteriorated rapidly from then but I did get to spend quality time with him before the final few hours which were painless and quick.
Sorry for your loss baggers.
In the scheme of things, his timing wasnt too bad. A few months earlier, and you wouldnt have gotten his final moments. In a few months.... It might have been a similar or worse scenario.
Deepest sympathies to the family. Its never easy to lose a loved one. Its been about 15 years now since I last spent a xmas with my dad. Understand the feeling and its never easier, you just harden yourself to the hurt after a little while.

Condolences Shane.
I am heartened by your use of “lucid and joking”, “quality time”, and “painless and quick”. That’s how I’d like to go.
My Dad was in a lot of pain and he called me to complain. I clumsily tried to divert his focus away from the pain with, “You’ll feel better when Collingwood loses [the GF] on Saturday.”
His response was “Bullsh1t!” and he hung up. That was the last time I heard his voice; he willed himself to die to end the pain. I guess that I couldn’t comprehend being in so much pain.
May your Dad Rest In Peace Shane. My Dad is resting in Peace and Quiet - he often exclaimed “Can I have some peace and quiet?” so we put that on his grave marker
“Why don’t you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don’t you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don’t you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?” Oddball

Sincere condolences Baggers, it's a very difficult time for you and your family.
My father died ten years ago now - 2020 would have been his 100th birthday but I think he'd had enough by 90 and quietly just "walked".
Reality always wins in the end.
