2018 VFL Rd 5: Northern Blues vs Frankston at Frankston
My 2 bobs worth...

Polson was great. His intensity was top shelf stuff. Played a very good inside/outside blend of midfield craft and, apart from his u18 days, this was the first time since being a Carlton footballer that I was quite excited by what he brings. Played a tough brand of footy too, which could also be said for a few others such as Schumacher, De Koning and Jack Silvagni. They kept putting their head over the footy and their bodies on the line. Impressive fro kids against quite a physical team of hard nosed men, who tried to bully and beat our kids up from the get go. Though this was the biggest sign of improvement from our big group of young kids. Their resilience, toughness, unity and intensity. Top notch stuff! Now to back in up this week!!!

Thanks for that Pratty.

Nowadays I read the NB reports with mixed feelings. I read about good/very good performances from player x, y etc. and the first thing I think to myself is whether they can play at this level in the seniors, at which point I become somewhat disheartened. If the gap between AFL and VFL wasn't so great, we might have a good chance with most of these blokes.

Sigh..................

With modern footy tactics it is very hard to dominate even at the lower levels, as the team and the tactics are so heavily structured. Players do not get the freedom to go down to VFL and achieve ridiculous results.

Maybe not, but we seem to have many players who look the goods at VFL, and seem to come up short at senior level.

I think it's changed significantly over the last couple of seasons.

Before then I agree, but now both VFL and AFL are different.
