RIP Phil Gibbs

Phil Gibbs, who anchored Channel O's coverage of the VFA back in the golden era TV/radio footy coverage, has passed away just short of his 88th birthday.
RIP.

I remember watching the VFA with Phil Gibbs every Sunday, it was like a ritual not to be missed, a very good co commentator of Phil was Ted Henry's whose knowledge of the game was excellent..those two paved the way for Phil Cleary and the next generation, sad to see Phil passing but he had a good innings and will be fondly remembered.
I could go on DJ but only us oldies and a couple of the other senior posters would have any idea who we were talking about..sigh...  :-[

Being a Preston supporter it brought back some memories. I miss the old VFA and watching the VFL merged teams doesnt really do it for me....the VFA had its own stars/personalities and spawned a lot of good VFL/AFL players. So sad to hear of Phil's passing. :-[ :-[ :-[ I think that I am right in saying that Phil was involved in the nights Carlton held at the Melbourne Town Hall where the players performed various short acts. Great nights but I was only about 7 or 8 so my memory may be a little challenged. Phil was either the compere or joint compere - I was more interested in the players.
