It's always been the case. I remember standing next to Scott Burns at Colombo's Pizza House when he was still playing and he was quite runtish. He looked like a tank on field as well.

Was standing next to Richo and he was tall but a stick insect. Kouta was big but not exactly Arnie.

Met David Rhys Jones buying a coffee and we are both around the same height but Rhys is one bloke who looks way bigger across the shoulders in person
and isnt the thin bodied winger who started at the Swans...
I'd be more than happy to see Rhys back at Carlton as I reckon he did some good work at Frankston and would be a big improvement on Luke Webster...

I have heard from a few people that have watched him coach. The key thing that keeps coming up is that he knows how to keep things simple. Keep his instructions on the things that count the most. Along with he has a very good way of getting his point across, and making his instructions understood. He doesn't confuse young players as he doesn't make a process appear complicated. He also knows how to use his
"I mean business voice" when needed. I haven't heard him address players myself,, but my friends have said that if he was their coach they would do what ever it takes to see his exact instructions are followed. Isn't that something we could use at our senior club at the moment.
This digital world is too much for us insects to understand.

I've heard him address sides at various stages of games... very, very impressive. Knows how to communicate effectively.

Keeping it simple must be the key to good coaching. Out there in the heat of battle at AFL level, trying to remember too many instructions is probably futile with opposition pressure often at very intense levels. Thinking time would be minimal and often instincts take over, as they do in real battles.
Simple instructions without too many options or need to think too deeply would be the most effective for all but the most gifted players.
Reality always wins in the end.
