AFL Rd 4: Carlton vs North Melbourne
It was good to get the win, not so good to have the last 4 kicked against us. But I will take the win, especially for a Good Friday game.
Rating: B
North took it up to us and we found a way to win. For periods we dominated even though we were well beaten in the middle of the ground.
Votes:
[2] Charlie Curnow
[2] Harry McKay
[1.5] Patrick Cripps
[1.5] Lewis Young
[1.5] Zac Fisher
[1.5] Jacob Weitering
[1.5] Mitch McGovern
[1] Sam Docherty
[0.5] Adam Saad
[0.5] Ollie Hollands
[0.5] Nic Newman
[0.5] Jesse Motlop
[0.5] Jack Silvagni
Explanations:
[2] Charlie Curnow: Brilliant. 6 goals, 9 marks and 16 possessions for a key forward.
[2] Harry McKay: Also brilliant. 14 marks for a key forward isn’t dominant, it is phenomenal. Pity his kicking for goal wasn’t as good as his aerial work.
[1.5] Patrick Cripps: Roved to a losing ruck and was scragged all day, but still really contributed.
[1.5] Lewis Young: 10 marks and thrashed his opponent. An excellent game.
[1.5] Zac Fisher: Fish got the ball early, but did little with it. After half time every possession was like a knife in North’s innards.
[1.5] Jacob Weitering: 12 marks and 0 goals against. Excellent.
[1.5] Mitch McGovern: The sort of game we really want to see from this guy. Dominated across half back.
[1] Sam Docherty: Quiet early, but was brilliant in the second half. A real leader’s game.
[0.5] Adam Saad: Very solid in defence. Provided a lot of drive.
[0.5] Ollie Hollands: A very solid effort on the wing. Lots to like here.
[0.5] Nic Newman: Another strong game in defence.
[0.5] Jesse Motlop: Can be magical when he’s hot.
[0.5] Jack Silvagni: Early in the game Jack was a liability, turning the ball over time and again. But he lifted and was very effective after half time.
Honourable Mentions:
Adam Cerra: A solid effort. Almost managed a vote.
Ed Curnow: Very quiet early, but he went onto Davies-Uniak and quietened him while getting good possessions of his own.
Lochie O’Brien: Lochie was terrible early, making bad decisions and turning the ball over. But after half time he lifted and made a real difference.
