Team: B
Considering how much of the game we dominated, it was quite a disappointment to win by less than a goal. To come back from 7 goals behind was nothing short of excellent. To be down by 39 points so early in the game was horrifying!
Votes:
[3] Sam Walsh
[2] Sam Petrevski-Seton
[2] Patrick Cripps
[2] Jacob Weitering
[2] Ed Curnow
[1] Tom de Koning
[1] Jack Newnes
[1] Lachie Plowman
]0.5] Sam Docherty
[0.5] Liam Jones
Explanations:
[3] Sam Walsh Probably deserves twice as many votes. Walsh was good all night and produced some great things.
[2] Sam Petrevski-Seton: His best game in ages. He dominated his position and really provided some drive.
[2] Patrick Cripps: A slow start, but Cripps literally willed himself into the game. His clearances were excellent. His goal was also a significant improvement.
[2] Jacob Weitering: Dominated his position. Was beaten in the air once.
[2] Ed Curnow: Took out a very good player in Parker.
[1] Tom de Koning: Looked impressive. His groundwork, his marking and his huge leap were signs of the future.
[1] Jack Newnes: Newnes started quietly, but when it had to won, he really picked up his rating. Very solid performance.
[1] Lachie Plowman : Took out Papley. Dominated his position.
]0.5] Sam Docherty: Very solid job in defence.
[0.5] Liam Jones: Dominated his position and allowed his man very little of the ball. Lost his first two contests, but probably didn’t lose another one for the night.
Honourable Mentions:
Will Setterfield: Setters started off slowly but came home well and managed to 4 good clearances.
Marc Murphy: Murphy was solid rather than spectacular but continued to perform solidly all night.
Kade Simpson: A very solid effort and kept his opponents down well.
Zac Fisher Fisher probably deserves votes, to be honest. He was a real live wire on the forward line.
Tom Williamson: After a slow start, Willo got right on top of his opponent and delivered some good drive from defence.
Levi Casboult: Levi has had a couple of poor ones in recent time, but this wasn’t one of them. His ruck work was solid, and his marking was strong in the wet conditions. Had he not missed his first attempt on goal, I would have been tempted to give him votes.
Matthew Cottrell: Not a huge game by Cottrell, but a very effective one. His effort to kick our last goal was excellent.
Harry McKay: Probably beaten on the night, but H was a target and his goal were invaluable. Still gets it to his hands well, but he needs to hold this marks that bit better.
