Weitering stumbled in 2018 for various reasons. It didn't help that that the Blues were awful, and that he was being asked to play as a key defender in a team that was getting smashed in the midfield.
In normal circumstances, a young key back begins his career as the second or third tall, playing alongside a 150-gamer who plays on the premier forwards. Weitering, alas, wasn't afforded the typical apprenticeship.
