It's like if you're an apprentice working with a tradesman.
While he's around and showing you things you take a backseat and learn.
When he's not around you have the ability to put your own style on the job......and make the odd mistake without fear of being picked up on it.
Both are valuable learning experiences, but you take your time with the master while you still have it.
You have plenty of time to strike out on your own.
