Not many people I know would undergo a sex change for financial gain particularly when you have to start the process early and from what I understand it isn't exactly cheap.
I do agree that the sports world has some huge challenges in this regard and I have no idea how to solve that particular issue.
Having a few trans friends myself I can 100% guarantee that no one would go through this process just to play a sport...especially one that doesn't look like being particularly financially rewarding for quite a long while.
It's such a brutal process; emotionally, physically and socially. It's not a decision made on a whim, and is often seen as a life or death situation for those who go that journey.
As for this particular case, I feel torn. I am a staunch advocate for equal opportunity, but I also see how this could potentially derail all the hard work that's gone into launching this competition (rightly or wrongly). It will become such a focus of discussion and will only give the haters another reason to mock the competition.
