Trumpled (Alternative Leading)
(07-18-2024, 11:05 PM)Lods date Wrote:I've changed my mind about Trump being assured of victory.

It has a bit of a feel like a team getting out to an eight goal lead in the first quarter, getting a bit 'cocky' and then being slowly over-run.
There's a long way to go.
This is Trump's high point.
There is only one way to go.
Already his team has come out swinging about his dire financial and legal status. Not even a week after somebody has tried to off him they have become quite boisterous about winning, because they are talking about scrubbing charges and wiping debts and liabilities using Presidential Immunity.

All that may be true, but it exposes what his real focus is, and his boosters will remain oblivious to it. If Trump uses the Presidency escapes his debts and liabilities, the real cost of living goes up for Joe Average, the very people who voted him in will pay a higher price! :o

Also of even greater concern, Trump is again making noise about changing the US Constitution to allow a 3rd term, you just know his team will be hell bent to make it happen. Some Republican's claim the discussion is a furphy and it can't happen, but given the opportunity he'll do it.

This is not a discussion about someone who has honour, I don't get how so many can be so oblivious.

Jack blacks previous interviews shows his thoughts on trump long before recent events backs up my theory (and others) that his actions are about saving face (and his career) until all this blows over.
Quote:During an interview with Conan O’Brien in 2017, Jack Black was asked if he believed Tenacious D’s “I’m the best and everything I do is amazing shtick” had influenced the former US president.

“Yes. In fact I feel Donald Trump saw a Tenacious D concert, because that’s our whole thing, just like we are the greatest band in the world, no one can touch us, we are the best,” Black responded.

“And he just saw us and said, ‘I’m going to use that technique. I’m the greatest president. I got all the greatest people…’ and then he used it and became president.

“And now, when we go out and perform Tenacious D, I always have like, a little twinge of guilt, because it’s like this evil f***ing warlock stole our magic, but just took out all the irony. And it worked and now he’s destroying the universe.”

There is also old footage of Jack black at his Hollywood star reveal where he signs off his acceptance speech as "Donald Trump is a piece of sh*t" unprompted.

He is no fan of trump but he is trying to keep his newfound family friendly image in tact with a lot of Hollywood movies in the works currently. He can't afford to get cancelled right now.

Its damage control and it'd come from higher ups because of the international headlines it created because someone posted a video which our politicians sensationalised.

....and yes, I am pissed off that j don't get to see them (again) and now have to chase a refund.

There's probably an element of timing involved.
A man died.
It was just a little too soon for Kyle to make the comments he did.
That's why Black has probably taken the position he has (at least publicly)
Many Hollywood celebrities have been hyper critical of Trump.
A week or two down the track and Black would probably have no issue with referencing the assassination attempt in a joking manner. (He won't now)
The jokes will start to come soon enough.

Just on the Republican convention…
Trump spoke for an hour and a half in his acceptance speech at the convention yesterday…He should have shut up after a half an hour. The first bit was quite effective, reflecting on the events of previous days. From that point on it was just a ramble. It was back to normal Trump, but a speech without a lot of energy and you could almost sense the crowd getting just a little bit bored.
I’m not sure it would have been a positive in attracting support out in ‘television’ land.

In the day to day grind I have to deal with a few scientific / engineering types that are senior in organisations like NASA, mostly on advance manufacturing and technology issues. Of course following on from recent events I had to ask what they thought about the political situation in the USA, the general consensus is grim.

Just in the last week, some individuals have had shots fired across the bow, budget cuts are coming, jobs are going, yet again, they had just finish rebuilding after the last era of cuts. They've yet again been put on notice by the political aspirants. The people in the gun this time are the people that run our weather satellites, they provide the data for prediction of hurricanes, tsunamis and tornadoes, etc., etc.. It seems if the political opponents can't stop the crowd spreading the message learned from the data, the next thing they are going to do is cut the source of the data. This is the USA not China or Russia, but the tactic of silencing or restricting the access to the data is clearly not democratic, it's dictatorship.

Why does this affect us? Because Australia has just kick started a major push to become involved in space and advanced manufacturing, actually it's to become re-involved given we were in it early and our dullard leaders dropped the ball. Apparently in the distant past, some at the very top of the tree in our leadership thought Australia was "Too Dumb" to be part of the space race.

Ironically Australia is one of the world leaders in advanced manufacturing technology, but we are close to the worst at commercialising it, we are or have invented a lot of the stuff others profit from. Generally, our political or industrial leaders play the short game, and they find the GOP tactics very attractive. I suppose they all expect to be long gone when the price for short term gain is long term pain,

When you saw Trump and his family on stage, that wasn't about politics, that's about them knowing who is the hand that feeds them and what is at stake. If Trump can't get re-elected he is financially ruined. That is eventually their money and Trump doesn't hesitate to let them know, they know he's not long for this earth and they are still young, but don't be fooled into thinking they trust him because he has burnt the family fortune before. The last time it was his late Ex-wife that saved  the empire, not Donald.
