So I thought it was a very high probability despite no media suggesting as much.

I was watching it live (sad admission) Sad
My initial thoughts were, with that many shots there would have to have been some injuries to spectators.
I even stated as much in the OP regarding the incident and described it as 'bizarre' that there didn't seem to be others hurt.
We learn't after the fact that there were, but it took probably half an hour (maybe more) from the shooting before that news came through that there were injuries and that the shooter and one other was dead.

I think the initial reaction of those close by was disbelief...it took some a while to react
It may have been that that delayed response that meant screams weren't forthcoming straight away, or you may be right and the screams came from someone close to the victims.

At the time of making that post there were no reports of any injuries or loss of life. Had I made that post with knowledge of loss of life it would indeed have been appalling. Turns out it was a silly and ill-adviced post and ignored one of my own principles... know as many facts as possible before forming an opinion. Disappointed with myself over that comment, and let myself down, badly. I am deeply and sincerely sorry for any offense my words caused.

Just goes to show, don't go too early.

I'm still not commenting on this.

I've heard a lot said about it so far and most people I can only shake my head at.

Particularly the ones who went with he only has himself to blame...

It's ridiculous.  I don't like Trump or Biden but far out the guy actually had shots fired at him by a 20 year old.

We still don't have the facts, motivation etc.  It's a shambles.

Well some, let's say 'interesting' facts, are beginning to emerge. The shooter, a white male, registered Republican who'd donated $15s to a Democratic cause, used his father's rifle. Fired from a rooftop around 100 yards from his target. Rooftop? Secret Service?  :-X

Trump is quoted as saying that God saved him. My (cautious!) response is what about the innocent victims and their families?  :-X

@baggers yet sometimes it's as simple as a kid with a gun making a name for himself and taking it out on others for whatever reason.

Shootings are a tragedy.  Nothing more nothing less.

How people pass judgement says more about them than the shooter.

Might well be a kid with a gun attempting to make a name for himself, but isn't that making a judgement? What we do know is that he's a white kid with his old man's gun, a registered Republican who made a modest donation to a Democrat cause... and, yep, all manner of assumptions and judgements will be made from those facts. And no doubt over the coming days and weeks other facts and speculations will come to light.

There will be many judgements and speculations around this tragic situation, and aint that simply human nature as each of us attempts to understand and make sense of the senseless?

One simple fact also remains, as you point out, shootings are a horror. Innocent people being harmed and killed is a terrible tragedy and horrendously pointless. And it doesn't take much to expand such horrors to what is happening in the Gaza, Ukraine, behind closed doors in family homes (domestic violence)... and so on. Not a difficult leap to question humanity on many levels.

Of course, the true irony is that the Republicans will still go to the election in November with full support for the Second Amendment and no agenda for tightening of gun laws.  And now, with 'faster than a speeding bullet' Donald well and truly in the frame to win yet again, it isn't going to change anytime soon.

Forget Trump and Biden, it is the American love affair with various forms of destructive weaponry that is the biggest threat to their nation, and by extension, the entire world.
This is now the longest premiership drought in the history of the Carlton Football Club - more evidence of climate change?

The bullet shot at Trump hit his right ear. Maybe God wants him to stop listening to right wing nut jobs.

Lots of Americans on both sides of politics saying that now is the time to cool things down, to show each other a bit more respect and refrain from demonising the other side.

I give it a week. :Smile
