Trumpled (Alternative Leading)
Hard to believe polls in the USA, they currently claim Biden has gained ground in swing states over Trump.

Perhaps part of the problem is the swing states aren't full Trump apparatchiks, and it seems the recent debate success has led Trump to become even more extreme.

Has this reduced trust or increased fear of reprisals that Trump is so open about, do the swing states fear that Trump's party cannot control him?

That can be a bit deceptive unless you're comparing the data that was collected before by that same polling group rather than a different polling org.

But it actually seems to be the case in those swing states.

I have just watched a commentator on YouTube discussing Americans and their lack of knowledge of world affairs. His comment was this " The majority of Americans in their lifetime will travel no farther than the states adjoining theirs. They have no interest in, and therefore no knowledge of, the rest of the world."

Scary.

Limited travel is just the start. There's a large subsection of that demographic that lives in an hermetically sealed, reality distortion field. They get all their knowledge from outlets like Fox News : news, entertainment, spiritual guidance, health and beauty tips etc all from one incredibly biased source. Hannah Arendt was quite right IMO. The first thing totalitarian movements do is cut people off from the real world. When you add to this the appalling state of US education, whether it be savage cuts to state schools, wealthy corporate donors at tertiary level, the religious right demanding Intelligent Design be taught instead of evolution etc.,  you really have to squint and pray to see any hope.

The classic thing is simple dissemination of information in the US.  There's no unified voice disseminating news and information like the Australian newspaper, SBS or the ABC here, each US state is essentially its own separate mini-country. People don't give a flying .... what's happening in the adjacent state, and it isn't like their local news is going to give a wide enough view to encompass neighbouring states or the wider region.  Heck, people in one county hardly even acknowledge the presence of neighbouring counties.

It's quite true.
We tend to look at the USA as a single entity, the same as Australia.
While we have subtle differences between states it's still quite an easy task to move to live from one state to another. I've lived in 3 different states and apart from an argument over potato scallops and the way Victorians pronounce Castle, there is not a great deal of difference.
The USA on the other hand is almost as diverse as Europe, and apart from a 'nearly' common language, there are significant differences.
