Dont see the well to do morally bankrupt Governor of California Gavin Newsom who would be favourite to take Bidens spot as the peoples champ or overly appealing to the struggling masses in the USA. As much as Biden is on his last legs he does have that public appeal to many as a bloke who served his country and who has decent morals which separates him from Trump and Newsom.

Harris refers (almost) to Biden as the Vice President.

He certainly thinks he is...in fact he's 'proud' of the fact
“By the way, I’m proud to be, as I said, the first vice president, first Black woman… to serve with a Black president,”

And Trump from his golf cart...."How did I do with the debate the other night? I kicked that old, broken down pile of crap. He's quitting the race" and then said of Harris "so f****g bad" - going on to call her "pathetic".

It is truly bizarre.
We despair at the quality of our current crop of politicians.
Both the current leaders of our major political parties pale in comparison to former leaders.
Albanese is no Hawke or Keating...Dutton is barely a Morrison.

If a Labor leader carried on like Biden and showed similar signs, he'd be replaced in a heartbeat...maybe quicker.
If a Liberal leader said what Trump did from the golf cart, about his opponent, he'd be finished.... and that's without any of Trump's other considerable baggage.

If we ever become a republic, we shouldn’t have a president as the head of state.  The prime minister can do the job while remaining accountable to parliament.

Yep, and the Prime Minister should be accountable to High Court and the Senate, not sit above it or out of reach.

Not sure about the Senate but the PM is ultimately accountable to the High Court in the event that Parliament (House of Reps and Senate) doesn't do its job. 

The US system with its archaic constitution, not to mention the candidates, is a disaster waiting to happen.

Whatever system is in place must not enable minority rule, it's chaos having the rights of individuals sit above the general public.

Any system is better than one in which a dozy old bloke or a convicted felon is commander in chief of the armed forces and can't be prosecuted for anything they do while in office.
