AFL Rd 10 2023 In Game Angst Carlton vs Collingwood
#31
No real surprises in any of that. Pies will make plenty of teams look average this season.

Middle of the road team at best.

Have i suggested otherwise?

We are a 'middle 6' team. Our results in the Voss era show exactly that.

Why anyone thinks differently has me f***ked.
Why anyone thinks we were going to knock off collingwood has me f***ked.

The people who are angriest are the people who have unrealistic expectations.

Big second half coming up
2017-16th
2018-Wooden Spoon
2019-16th
2020-dare to dream? 11th is better than last I suppose
2021-Pi$$ or get off the pot
2022- Real Deal or more of the same? 0.6%
2023- "Raise the Standard" - M. Voss Another year wasted Bar Set
2024-Back to the drawing boardNo excuses, its time

Unrealistic expectations? We are 8 years into a rebuild never made final and will go backwards this year despite having a decent run with injures and finish bottom 6.

We have every right to feel pi55ed off.

I'd suggest that at the moment we're looking like a bottom 6 side! We've beaten Geelong when they were ordinary outta the blocks....fell over the line against GWS....and beat up on North and West Coast.

I think the expectations were there this year because we were in the top 8 for all bar about 2 minutes last season and suffered a horrendous run of injuries in the middle part of the season when we were down to Young as our only key defender at one point.

Walsh was missing early and we lost Williams in the pre-season, but Acres came in ready made and Hollands has added a bit. But we've fallen away dramatically from last season IMO.

You can clearly see the boys giving effort and having a crack, but the Pies move-the-ball-forward-at-all-costs, extreme run and gun style, is clearly troubling us and many other sides. What they do, they do extremely well.

You can say we are 20 years into a rebuild if you want. Reality is, every time we sack a coach, we start again.

We are not even 18 months into this current phase.
In that 18 months we have...
New President
New CEO
New Senior coach
New assistant coaches
and plenty of new players.

None of which have anything to do with what happened 18 months before.

You may well remember that i have been opposed to sacking the coach from every coach since Pagan! I would've kept Ratten, (supported) Malthouse, Bolton and Teague.....and have no issues with Voss.

We need some kind of stability. The complete lack of is why our 'rebuilds' are continuing....reality, we get halfway through a build, demolish it and start again.
We have never come close to finishing a rebuild. Until we do, we'll never get to where we want to get too.

The ball movement and player positioning of the Pies is something to behold live.

Going by the ladder before this round started....

Vs top 6 - 0-3
Vs mid 6 - 1-1-1
Vs Bot 6 - 3-0

Trend continues today.
We are mid-6 and results show it. We are having a tough run both fixture wise and form wise. But its better being 'down' against top sides. By the time we play some lower/mid sides, hopefully we find some more form.

We on the other hand have had our game disassembled from early last year, we need to either make tweaks or make the tweaks work better.
Early last year the forward handball was devastating for us this year hardly sighted.
Let’s go BIG !
