AFLW off-season - Signing, trades, draft....
#31
If as an AFLW fan you take a global view, you could be forgiven for coming to the conclusion that being part of a clique plays a far far bigger and more important role in AFLW player trade and movement than many other aspects of list management and decision making. But would you be wrong?

To me it paints the AFLW as still a bit amateur, a bit part-time, but in fairness I suppose they are really.

Amelia looks like a handy player if her highlights are anything to go by; nice mark, good kick and works hard with or without the ball.

Greg has gone to the Tigers as predicted.

We get Richmond's 1st round pick; pick 25 (Victorian pick 13), for her.

That gives us picks 21 (10), 25 (13) and 28 (15) to get some early draft talent.

Out of date already!

We've traded picks 21 (10) and 42 (23) to Geelong for Phoebe McWilliams and pick 17 ( 8 ).  We now have picks 17 ( 8 ), 25 (13) and 28 (15).

Is that the same Phoebe McWilliams who is 36 years old?

Not sure how that will go down give who we've been cutting in recent seasons! :o

That's the one LP!

She's still kicking goals and we need some firepower up forward but I suspect the draft pick was the sealer.

Age works differently in the womens game.

Last year we lost Tayla Harris.....we basically replaced her with Nic Stevens.
This year we lost Nic Stevens....we basically replace her with McWilliams.

We do have a couple kids/developing players for the long term, so its a good pickup.

Our main targets last season were Vescio, Stevens and Jones.  Next season it will be Vescio, McWilliams, Jones and, hopefully, Gibbs, plus Moody and Good (who were there last season of course).  That’s a more potent forward line, but we’re going to need some grunt in the midfield to get the ball into our forwards.

Could be mistaken. Thought I read Courtney Jones was on the move.
