Movie & TV thread...
We're getting a bit off topic but there must be a link back to movies somewhere along the line  :Smile

Many years ago, I was sent to the Turana Youth Training Centre to sort out their filing.  A few years before this, a couple of mates had "done time" in Turana and to do so was seen as a badge of honour to some of my schoolmates.

After a couple of hours of sorting through the files, it became very obvious that a common thread was sexual abuse at a young age, generally by family members and/or family friends.  Many of the tough kids that we admired/feared had been violated by those who should have been nurturing and protecting them.

Violence and misogyny were common threads in my neighbourhood but I think that it was learned behaviour rather than some innate desire to harm/degrade others.

Interesting DJC and without going into too much detail I can support what you are saying. Sexual predation on the young can result in the young even learning from it and becoming predatory themselves, and I have definite knowledge of such in a society that is far away removef from that which you describe. In this case it was what some may call reasonably affluent middle-class. It is a terrible  curse on society for sure.
Reality always wins in the end.

Something I’ve pondered over the past couple of months is why was the St Kilda and later Carlton little league pedophilla was NOT raised for discussion here ?
As the posts above show, it’s a far reaching issue and I was surprised that it hadn’t featured here…
Let’s go BIG !

My fault for the tangent, sorry.  Favourite films in our household at the moment are Frozen, Moana, anything Star wars.  I just go to sleep on the couch.

If you're looking for something a little different, try the Ballad of Buster Scruggs on Netflix.  It's a series of short stories rather than a feature film and Tom Waits (on of my all-time heroes) plays one of the main roles.

Love Tom Waits too, but not allowed to watch his films or listen to his music at home while my wife is at home.

My late mother introduced me to Tom Waits! Been a fan ever since.

I watched The Children in the Frame last night.  It is frightening how many people are members of exploitation/abuse sites there are and the lack of resources that are given to them.  It is also frightening how this is one only one element - the trafficking of children for sex, slavery, bonded labour are a few other elements.

To those that work on the frontline combatting this - you are amazing.

Tonight's viewing might be something a little lighter.
