Thank you, LN. Happy to share. Started writing my first novel when I was 12... but when my father found out he discouraged it somewhat violently! Didn't pick up the pen again until I was well into my 30s. Yep, my first work was published about 8 years ago and the next in a few months. My favourite genre is supernatural thrillers with an underlying social justice theme. I have 3 other works ready for 'rewrites and editing', one of which is being turned into a screenplay. My 'real job' is as a psychotherapist specialising in men's issues around addictions and anxiety. 

What a super achievement Baggers.  Congratulations.  I tilt my hat (navy CFC version) to you. 
Fancy starting a novel at age 12. I bet you were a clever creative kid. O:-)
Your efforts are truly inspirational. I hope it brings you great satisfaction in your journey, and lasting change for those you work with.

You're too generous! I tilt my 'navy' hat to those who make a career of authoring. Requires mongrel persistence and belief to get published. With my first work I lost count around 55 knock backs before getting a yes. The funniest knock back was from a NY publisher who returned my covering letter and sample pages with a big, hand written in red crayon, NO...

What about you, LN, what's you area of expertise?

I've been fortunate to have worked in two related health areas. Nursing and Midwifery, and now Clinical psychology.
My practice, similar to yours, involves working with a vulnerable population. In my case within Child Protection Services. My specialty is working with those children, parents and systems impacted by the inherent, often intergenerational, trauma and attachment difficulties.

In terms of publication, I had a taste as part of my academic pursuits.  Needless to say I hot footed it out of academia as soon as I could. I found the knock backs frustrating initially  :-[  Then I realised my manuscript just wasn't that good in the world of peer-reviewed journals. A humbling experience. I no longer rushed to open mail from the Editors, although published my research in the end. The process indeed requires persistence and a robust ego to say the least. That's why what our friend Wet Willie and yourself have achieved is so admirable.

I can't help but wonder how many more Bluebaggers have such achievements (for another thread perhaps).
