Vale Rodriguez - DJC - 08-10-2023 I only discovered the music of Sixto Rodriguez relatively recently but what an unusual career he had; blissfully unaware of his popularity and success in southern Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Compared to Bob Dylan and Cat Stevens, his music seemed to strike a chord with Deadheads and fans of protest songs. I can’t listen to a lot of Rodriguez but I don’t mind playing an album occasionally. RIP Rodriguez. Re: Vale Rodriguez - bricky - 08-10-2023 Have been meaning to watch the doco about him, Searching for the Sugar Man Re: Vale Rodriguez - RiverRat - 08-11-2023 Bought his albums way back when and remained a fan even when he disappeared from the scene. Hadn't see this news until I logged in here. Sad. Watched it this arvo, definitely worth a look. His songs 'I Wonder' and 'Sugarman' always seemed to be playing around parties in the early 80's, hard to work out how the Yanks had never heard of him. |
