If games stopped at the 15 min of the last qtr this year we'd have 11 wins and playing finals. So we must take the next step next year and finish these games off. Very true. This cannot be overstated IMO. We've failed miserably for multiple drafts. SOS has done wonders thus far. I expect another year of good recruiting and we'll look very different. Need to remember our 'talent' has one or two PS, or are kids still growing. Get another PS into the kids and the likes of Pickett and Marchbank and it will show. If that side of drugcheats can only beat us by 8 in the dying minutes.... They should be worried, not us with 1/4 of our list injured and 1/4 just kids. We'll get there .... It's hard to lift when you're carrying three or four passengers! We really can't hope to win when we have players who just don't get the pill. In some cases it may be worth it for the long term development of the squad. In other cases they are just making up the numbers. Rather than questioning the effort and resolve of Simpson, Murphy and Gibbs, take a look at the blokes who aren't touching the footy. Re: Rd 20: Post Game Palaver: Carlton vs Essendon. - Thryleon - 08-06-2017 Murphy has had a good a season this year as I've seen him play since 2011. Time is catching up to Simpson. He's been a warrior and if we didn't have so much d grade talent he might get the tap on the shoulder. Gibbs is Gibbs. What you see is very good and that's exactly what you get but don't expect another gear out of him. He just doesn't have one. Re: Rd 20: Post Game Palaver: Carlton vs Essendon. - cookie2 - 08-06-2017 If Simmo retires and Gibbs leaves then, depending on who we get in, we could be even more stretched in the midfield next year. Murphy will likely stay and I would like to retain Gibbs also but our drafting and trading is going to be crucial. Losing two of those three would make things very tough next year imo. Re: Rd 20: Post Game Palaver: Carlton vs Essendon. - laj - 08-07-2017 One thing that has pleased me this year is our ability to adjust and get back into games where we have fallen well behind. Pity we didn't end up winning alot of those but it shows and ability to stem the tide with our ability to shut the opposition down and play defensively. Hopefully the is our Plan B next year. In previous years a poor start would have led to an absolute flogging but we have shown resilience to fight back. We just need to eliminate the poor starts! It was disappointing to yet again give up a last quarter lead. We'd have to be close to the eight if we had won every game where we had led in the last quarter. More depth, a gun or two and another season's development into the young blokes and we will win those games. Re: Rd 20: Post Game Palaver: Carlton vs Essendon. - Professer E - 08-07-2017 IMO Byrne is a critical player going forwards, obvious Simmo replacement but the injury record is a concern. I doubt that either Murphy or Gibbs will be going anywhere, Gibbs is contracted and Adelaide have already shown that they are unwilling to pay what he's worth, and with Silvagni running things the days of Carlton being bent over on trades is over. Murphy is Carlton through and through, he's our captain and best player and he'll play out his days at Princes Park. With Cripps and Curnow available and the natural development of Petrevski-Seton, Cunningham and Fisher our midfield will be competitive with any, but we badly need a back up ruckman to cover injuries to Kreuzer. |
