SPS still isnt giving us enough .
SPS had a very solid defensive game last night, but didn't run off his man at all.

Was SPS on Ablett?  If so, he did a great job.

Interesting to see the tactics, just watched the replay.

Multiple times Docherty and SImmo kicked out to contests involving Dangerfield against either Cripps or one of our KPPs.

That cannot be an accident. I suspect we were deliberately making him defend to drag him into the contest and stop him running freely off on the turnovers. It seemed to work, he had very little influence and was continually stuck in traffic.

Mind you I’d rather my side looked pi22ed after a loss like that, entitled or not, rather than laughing and high fiving the winners!

Was a bit surprised the Cats didnt use Guthrie on Cripps and preferred him on Walsh and went with the likes of Dangerfield, Selwood rotating off Cripps.
SPS still isnt giving us enough and we are caught in that 50/50 with Martin that you want to use him directly on the ball more but dont want to lose what he offers in terms of forward work and being the bloke who is running the ball in rather than being a coalface player. Setterfield does his best work when he has a job IMO, just doesnt get enough ball around the ground.
Walsh is getting more attention this season and i reckon it might be time to give Kennedy another go in the middle as well as down forward rotating with Jack who I would also run through the midfield.
Fisher being out and not being in the mix hasnt helped either..I rate him highly and even though he was down last season I think he has the class we need around the coalface.
Re Fisher, he has the tools but like many of the players, doesnt do it anywhere near log enough.

I knew getting Eddie back would make a hell of a difference ... but just not by how much.

That pass to Murphy, the holding the ball tackle awarded a free kick are just the hallmarks of impeccable timing.  Should have never let him go in the first place.  He's simply so good.

At one stage in the 3rd or maybe the 4th, I thought he was off injured as I hadn't seen him for an extended period.

Re: Post Game Party!: AFL 2020 Rd 3: Carlton vs Geelong - Baggers - 06-21-2020

Anyone who doubts our game plan, most of our cattle and the recruiting of Edwardo have been quieted. That's not to say we don't still have much to work on. We sure do. Especially concentration and focus and ruthlessness for 4 qtrs.

But... we beat a good side (not great, as they may believe), in good form on their dunghill and their dunghill is a fortress.

Positives: Additions - Edwardo, Jack and Mr Pitts. The influence on our forward line and club in general of Edwardo Betts cannot be underestimated. Players will learn so much from his smarts and composure in the final minutes.

Gibbons. Especially early when there was fair-dinkum heat, he was in-and-under doing the hard things and helped in no small way, set the tone.

Good glimpses from Willo, especially breaking a tackle to lay off a good handball.

Don't underestimate the ability of Mr Pitts to put the wind up opponents. Applies excellent pressure and 2nd efforts. And Jack Martin's smarts and skills have certainly improved our club... significantly.

Loved our pressure and at last, good decisions and execution under pressure. And our ability to change gears when challenged, particularly in the first 3 qtrs.

But... concerns: again with the 3 qtrs!!!! And still not sold on Cuningham, Newnes, SOJ & H (something not quite right with the lad). Not sure what Setters job was but still waiting for him to show what made him a top 5 draft selection.

I think that’s a Jack Martin, Baggers??

Re: Post Game Party!: AFL 2020 Rd 3: Carlton vs Geelong - ElwoodBlues1 - 06-21-2020

Only two of our players had 20 possies or more and they were Cripps(24) and Docherty(23).....

SPS if he did the job on Ablett when the SOG was playing forward did well but 9 possies and 1 tackle wasnt great involvement and I'd rather use him up the field where he can get more footy.
Gibbons and Martin had 18 each and the latter's are always good ones but it still points to the fact we are a one band man in the middle and without Cripps firing we would struggle to beat anyone...especially with Walsh getting a tag now each week.
I think Pittonets contribution is even more valuable as his ruckwork denied a lot of 1st use ball to the Cats and he was probably BOG in terms of impact on the game.

Adding some class mids is vital to our progress and future...Wines is an important target.

Nice work Baggers. Agree on H and Cunners, Im worried about H in particular as we are pinning so much of our hopes on things. I have no worries about SOS, he works very hard both ways and keeps his opponent on his toes. Newnes even turned me just little last night, he did some work on Stevens who he obviously knows well and who has torn us a new one while at the Saints. Granted he looks about as fit as I do, but Newnes contributed which is all you all you can ask.
