Re: AFL Rd 16 2023 Post Game Passion Carlton vs Hawthorn - pinot - 07-02-2023 Crowd was very pleased - though todays win didnt mean all that much - felt the crowd felt the method to our gameplay is excellent. Our defensive actions all game is A grade tbh - doesn;t matter it's against a bottom four side. They were trying to smash us on the outside and Mitchell got outcoached to smitherenes with the numbers around the ball. The rest of the time Cripps, Cerra and Kennedy were claiming the front position at stoppages and couldn't be displaced, just too big and too strong. Charlie had almost zero opposition. BigH and our other forwards didn't have a lot of impact, Martin was probably our 2nd most influential forward he was much smarter than his opponents and very influential. Cunningham was also good early. And so good to see JSOS hold his grabs - took some very strong and important marks. Cunners adds so much 'silk' to our side and will only get better with more game time. He really seems to have developed beautifully under the Luke P tutelage... from 'cameo with potential' to a real weapon. And if Jack M can stay on the paddock he adds that X factor to our forwards with such good footy smarts... as have Cunners ...and JSOS (though I do worry about his future at the club). IF we maintain this pressure around the aggott & opposition (great tackle count last two games), we'll threaten any side, along with our multiple goal kicking options/threats and solid (and mean) defensive unit. Re: AFL Rd 16 2023 Post Game Passion Carlton vs Hawthorn - 31Tommys_barber - 07-02-2023 I think one of the key things I have seen in the last two weeks has been the small forwards. Owies I think has done his job harassing all year but with Fogarty Martin and Cunningham tackling pressure has been greatly improved from the timid efforts of Motlop and Honey. Keeping the ball in the 50 but also not giving a clear and easy kick to opposition defenders is helping us create more opportunities. Fogarty especially has surprised me with his tackling and taste for the contest. Re: AFL Rd 16 2023 Post Game Passion Carlton vs Hawthorn - Lods - 07-02-2023 There are four actions which constitute a one percenter according to official AFL statistics: knock-ons, spoils, smothers, and shepherds. Who leads our 1%ers this year? The answer will surprise some. It's Lewis Young, despite missing games. He was the stat leader again yesterday. Defenders (probably understandably) occupy the first five places. Then comes Pitto, with Harry McKay the first forward. Young 118 Weitering 101 McGovern 48 Saad 40 Newman 35 Pittonet 31 McKay 30 Kemp would be right up there on averages per game. Generally speaking, ALL defenders played very well as a team - although they were under much more pressure in the 3rd quarter when the midfield pressure fell away. I suppose Young versus other KPDs is a valid comparison. The first non-Defender in the AFL list is Bont at #41. AFL OPs In terms of teams the club with the most OPs is Wet Toast, I suppose because they are always 2nd to the pill and as such spoiling stats and smothers are probably through the roof! Agree, but overall Big H had one of his best games for us. He chased, tackled, got others into the game. Best cure for kicking yips is to get yourself involved in the 1%ers. Keep making yourself valuable in the rest of your game and the kicking will come. Re: AFL Rd 16 2023 Post Game Passion Carlton vs Hawthorn - LP - 07-03-2023 Let's not get carried away, the KPFs made a good contribution but the reality is the Dawks had nobody to stand either Charlie or BigH, it was immediately obvious from the first bounce. The Dawk fan sitting next to me turned and said "We're screwed", about 60s into the game! Adding to that, when our Mids and HBs are willing to hit up blokes likes Martin, Owies or Cunningham it makes the opposition defenders job even harder! |
