Re: The Last Kingdom - DJC - 01-26-2016 Quote:AGEING multimillionaire George R R Martin has stopped writing the next Game of Thrones book while in the middle of a sentence. Haha good one Lods He always says that and then disappoints. The idiot spends too much time at conventions and hanging out with his adoring fans. He owes his fans to lock himself away somewhere way up in the Rockies and just finish the bloody books. To the standard of the first 2. They were easily the best. Easily. Alternative reading from my collection. If you like fantasy, Sci Fi of modern day apocalypse you probably read some of these. Ravens Shadow Series - Anthony Ryan. Good fantasy. Night Angel Trilogy - Brent Weeks. Gritty, bloody fantasy. Shadow of the Apt Series - Adrian Tchaikovsky. Fantasy with a twist. Dwarves Series - Markus Heitz. Gritty fantasy. Really enjoyed these. Still need to read the latest novel. David Gemmel - Fantasy. Pretty much any of them. Waylander, Lion of Macedon, Prince of Darkness, Knights of Dark Renown, Druss the Legend books. Classics. Conn Iggulden - Emperor and Conqueror Series. Think Caesar and Genghis Khan from birth till death series. Afterlight - Alex Scarrow (apocalypse genre - modern day). Good, troubling read. One off. Simon Scarrow - Roman Series. Good hack n slash Roman legion adventures. James Barclay - Bloody Fantasy. All of them. Start with the Raven Series. Sarah Ash - Tears of Artamon. Good fantasy series. Kevin J Anderson - Saga of the seven Suns. Brilliant, brilliant Sci Fi. Think Star Wars. Joe Abercrombie - The First Law Series. Excellent Bloody, crass fantasy. The bloody nine has to be one of the best characters ever. Chris Bunch - Shadow Warrior, demon king, and Dragon Master Series. Good and tidy fantasy and sci fi. Bill Bryson - Walk in the Woods, Notes from a big country Terry Brooks - Shannara Series ( tv show just started!) Brett Weeks - Demon War Series. Ted Bell - Tsar. Modern day. Peter V Brett - Demon War Series - eg. The Painted Man. James Clavell - Shogun. Classic, nothing else needs to be said other than Japan medieval times and European culture clash. Ripping read. David Eddings - all of them, but especially Sparhawk. Funny big world fantasy. Michael Colbey - Humanity's Fire . Very Good sci fi. Raymond E Feist - crucially Magician. One of the best fantasy novels imo. Also Kelewan Series with Mara of the Acoma. Awesome series if you liked the Riftwar and other Feist books in this world. Now there is a female lead who is fantastic. From left field as well: Jeffrey Archer. Kane and Abel, The Fourth Estate, False Impressions, Not a penny more, not a penny less, a prisoner of birth, a matter of honour, first amongst equals, paths of glory. If I had to recommend books/series as must reads if you're bored at the moment, then read a Prisoner at Birth and Paths of Glory by Archer, Shogun by James Clavell, Saga of the Seven Suns by Kevin J Anderson and Raymond Feist's Mistress/Daughter/Servant of the Empire Series - with the other Riftwar books prior - Magician is a must read. (Pug's origin book is sensational). Joe Abercrombie's books come a close second along with the Painted Man/Demon War books by Peter v Brett. Enjoy Re: The Last Kingdom - Lods - 01-26-2016 I love his writing but yep....he's a goose This is today..... Quote:Author George R.R. Martin has announced on his official blog that "The Winds of Winter," the sixth book in the 'Song of Ice and Fire" series of which "Game of Thrones" is based on, will not be out and on store shelves before season 6 of the show premieres this April. As a matter of fact, the book may be pushed to 2017. Re: The Last Kingdom - LP - 01-26-2016 (01-26-2016, 01:00 AM)Woodstock link Wrote:Haha good one Lods He owes fans nothing. If he's lost the interest it's lost, nothing will get it back, and whipping him into submission won't deliver a result either! Re: The Last Kingdom - cookie2 - 01-26-2016 )What a drag having all those fans.............they're never happy! The fans are the reason he is still writing at all and probably still alive looking at the state of him. The fans are the reason he has had all the fame and money he has enjoyed. Yes it's down to talent, but he is where he is because fans have stayed loyal to him for decades while he keeps dragging his heels saying sorry sorry (excuses) time and time again. So yes, either say that you will stop and hand it over to someone who will add back some spice into the series or commit yourself like any other professional, lock yourself away, stay away from blogs, seminars and fandom and use your talents. Piss poor excuse really. If he is that tired, take off six months and energise yourself going through a bucket list. Or retire and hand over the reigns. That would be analogous to Hawthorn fans complaining that Clarkson owes them another premiership! If the fans love their work so much, they should give up pestering and resume the idolatry, both may have peaked! Re: The Last Kingdom - PassIt2Carrots - 01-26-2016 Well this thread escalated quickly.
