Re: Trumpled (Alternative Leading) - DJC - 10-22-2024 Too close to call, particularly with their crazy electoral college system ... and the potential for judicial involvement as in Bush v Gore. Re: Trumpled (Alternative Leading) - LP - 10-23-2024 Historically the "Nostradamus of US Elections", Allan Lichtman, will report that swings in polling this late are largely meaningless. And if you take note of how they oscillate from day to day you can see why. The vast majority of US voters had made the decision a month or two ago and do not change, but you get small changes from motivated late registrations and motivated early voters at exit polls, but they are typically too small in number to have any real influence. It was interesting to see Trump wanted early voting blocked / invalidated, but so far it seems the early voting might be in his favour. I wonder if he'll be asked the question now? ;D There are rumours MAGA are planning coordinated disruptions around polling booths on the day, because the social media theory is that on the day voting favours the Democrats. This I do not understand, because I'm sure when Trump hinted at early voting bans he claimed that polling on the day favoured the GOP. It could be that the Trump driven MAGA camp are going to act so that they can claim polling disruptions are the reason for a loss, a sort of insurance policy against Harris victory. It's genuinely insidious. Re: Trumpled (Alternative Leading) - shawny - 10-23-2024 The Us surely couldn't be that stupid to re elect them. Biden was a walking corspe would made a absolute fool of himself until they realised they had no hope winning with him in charge so they booted him and was faced with having to run with their VC Kamala who is not fit to run a KFC store let alone a country. like them or not fact is during their ruin rent has increased by 30% food by 50% all while taxes increased by 28%. but then again in our own backyard a youth mental health organisation elects none other then Mr Dan Andrews as the chair!!!! i mean even all hard nosed labor voters would have thought that was joke. I’d love to know the thought processes that led you to that position. The USA was a basket case under the previous administration so it was a challenge for Biden/Harris to turn things around. By all measures and independent assessments, they’ve successfully done that, as well as restoring the USA’s international standing. I’m not sure why you bring up Labor voters. The US major parties are nothing like our parties. The Republicans ended slavery and segregation. The Democrats were pro-slavery and were linked to the KKK. It’s really just a matter of not wanting a 78 year old self-serving, convicted felon and rapist with significant cognitive decline in charge of a nuclear arsenal. I’m not sure what Andrews has to do with US politics either but, if Patrick McGorry is happy with his appointment, I’m not going to argue. Re: Trumpled (Alternative Leading) - Lods - 10-23-2024 (10-23-2024, 01:33 AM)LP link Wrote:There are rumours...... If you believe them. Both sides are talking in extremes. You can't take anything on face value. Things that are said by each candidate are twisted and made out to be far worse than they really would be. And 'rumours' of utter devastaion and skulduggery if the other side wins are flowing thick and fast. Of course that doesn't mean they aren't grounded in some fact. I've no doubt there will be shenanigans whichever side wins. If it's Trump, well.... You wouldn't want to be an Iranian You wouldn't want to be a Ukranian If you're an American your lot in life won't change much at all because... Trump will do about a tenth of what he has said he will do. It's populist bluster. He will pardon the Jan 6th folk and a few others, and then head off for the golf course and be a part time president much like he was before. There won't be the mass deportations of immigrants they talk about. Border legislation that was held up will now pass in a similar form to what was agreed upon. The economy will be no better or worse. Some of the wars might actually end...but that might just be a temporary pause, There will be a little more unease for certain sections of the community...but the reality is for these folks there has never been much change or security under Democrat rule. Abortion laws and women's rights issues across the states will continue to be a dog's breakfast. If Harris wins little will change. And at the moment that is probably her major problem. If they're happy with the last four years they'll vote Democrat If they're not they'll bring back Trump for another go. Re: Trumpled (Alternative Leading) - PaulP - 10-23-2024 Google searches for Dan Andrews lying and the bike incident almost invariably show results from News Corpse and or other dubious media like the Daily Mail, the odd hit from 7 and 9 news, and the Liberal Party themselves. Such searches are very easy to do and anyone can verify my claim. This fact, absent all other information, should strike a reasonable, rational person as both odd and suspicious. I don't care much about Vic politics, but I do take an interest in claims and fact checking and bias. I refer to the first few pages of the searches. Anything beyond that is pointless IMO. By all measures and independent assessments, they’ve successfully done that, as well as restoring the USA’s international standing. The economy and housing cost is an interesting complaint. I have an associate now living in the USA who cannot believe how much they complain about the cost of buying or renting a home, which he advises is about half the average cost of doing the same in Australia. They have a higher average wage, at least in my associates circles, pay less for fuel and energy as well as less for items like bread, milk, clothes, cars and furniture. One thing my associate notes is that medical expenses are vastly higher. Travel by air, rail or bus in the US is dirt cheap, a fraction of similar costs here, hiring a car is oddly similar in cost to here which is strange given the vehicles are cheaper. Weirdly, in the same circle of friends the vast bulk of the people that complain about the cost of rent or mortgages don't buy and cook fresh food for themselves, they buy breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday! It's not just the meal cost for them, they have to tip whoever the food is sold by as well as the delivery person / service charges are significant. The servings are massive, and they tend not to share, each ordering multiple plates or courses, then eventually throw away the left overs. Living in a larger city, he said it's not uncommon for his associates to order delivery from the takeaway on the ground floor of the building they live in and have it delivered at the same rate as it would cost if you lived 5 miles away, then spend the next half hour complaining about the high costs of rent or mortgage repayments. [/quote] Indeed. But have a bit of search of the 'deniers' of the 2016 election. (The Democrat candidate in particular) It's never just a black and white situation. Trump's rhetoric took it too another level on Jan 6th, and I reckon the reaction probably surprised and unsettled him, but it was never the 'coup' that it's been depicted by some as. If it was, it was the worst 'coup' ever. It was never going to result in a change of the result...because at some point order would have been restored and things would have progressed as they should. I don't think Trump is fit to be President of the USA. He's not a very nice person. He's untruthful and his words do incite others to sometimes act appalingly. But it's not my decision. And there are millons of reasonable Americans that have found that under the Democrat regime their lives are not better or even worse. And they will vote for a person many of us don't think is fit...because they feel they will be better off. |
