Re: Trumpled (Alternative Leading) - Lods - 10-14-2024 (10-14-2024, 05:06 AM)shawny link Wrote:Its just that after a while you give up trying to have a balanced discussion with someone as far far left as yourself. The funny thing about the political spectrum is that where you sit personally on it often defines where you see others sitting. I regard myself as pretty much 'dead centre' with a touch of 'left' on some issues and a touch of 'right' on others. But other folks would probably regard me as a strong left winger or a right winger depending on where they sit. I don't think we have any extreme left or right folk on here...left and right leaning perhaps. Someone like Trump polarises folks. There really is no middle ground. He's either the "best thing since sliced bread" or "the devil incarnate." depending on your position. And support doesn't necessarily come from traditional sections of the community. The rhetoric means that America will enter a dangerous period post election whatever the result. It won't just affect America but will have implications for the rest of the world. Re: Trumpled (Alternative Leading) - DJC - 10-14-2024 In case anyone missed it, the bloke who was arrested at Coachella is a registered Republican and MAGA cult member. Re: Trumpled (Alternative Leading) - ElwoodBlues1 - 10-15-2024 Trump isnt the Prime Minister in Aus but we are heading down the same path as the USA with homeless folk. https://au.yahoo.com/news/sad-truth-behind-illegal-camping-crackdown-across-australia-getting-worse-063524023.html Re: Trumpled (Alternative Leading) - LP - 10-15-2024 I can't make sense of the homeless situation in Australia. I notice a few people camping under bridges around the city, many are plastering facades with signs saying homeless, need help, anti-police, anti-vax conspiracies, begging at intersections. I start to feel some pity and empathy, then on the next trip past I see them standing there holding a sign begging for money for rent while holding a full sized fresh looking carton of smokes, a donation maybe, but perhaps not! To me that is not an issue of being destitute, it's a mental health issue, it can't be fixed with income or welfare payments. This is a very different issue to the homeless women some I know help out, sleeping in cars sometimes with kids, pooling resources so that one can babysit while another gets a day of casual work here or there. That is a blight on our society. Trump would label them all vagrants and lobby for them to be deported, or hidden from view somewhere, certainly well out of physical contact. His supporters would do well to remember it could be them one day, it could be any of us! Re: Trumpled (Alternative Leading) - Lods - 10-16-2024 Not sure Kamala sitting down with a Fox News journalist, even one of the more moderate ones in Bret Baier, is a great idea. She's struggling. (edit: I wrote that at a particular point when immigration was the topic...she wasn't too bad in other parts. She deflected a bit but didn't take a back step.) I don't think it will influence a lot of Fox viewers and change their minds but it will be interesting to see the overall reaction. Kudos to her for doing it...was it a good decision to do it we'll have to wait and see. Re: Trumpled (Alternative Leading) - LP - 10-17-2024 It's a no win sitting down at Fox, almost zero swing voters will watch the network, and Fox as a News Ltd entity will lecture not interview and certainly not report. They have a corporately defined clear "Style" that they must adhere to or they lose their job, it's been that way at News Ltd Corporations since the 80s. We would be issued with News Ltd Style books, not only did it tell you about article layouts and reporting constructs, how to write and broadcast articles, it told you how to refer to various famous people including politicians, sportspeople and entertainers. Any who made it into the public arena with a half decent profile ended up with an entry in the style books. You could divide them into two categories, Murdoch Haters( aka Hated by Murdoch. ) or Murdoch Apologists. It's probably the go to channel for Republican voters. But the thing is that not all Republicans are Trump supporters. Many are quite opposed to his 'control' of the party. I sometimes think the best 'tell' of how a politician has performed is seeing the reaction of commentators with a political bias. After the Trump-Harris debate the Fox folk were generally down and subdued. The CNN people were quite happy. You'd give the points to Harris. In the Vance-Walz debate both sides were quite pleased....we'll call it a draw. It was interesting when the interview finished this morning I was expecting the Fox panelists to be quite aggressive about her performance and while it was fairly negative they weren't quite as damning as I expected, even praising her combative approach. So on that basis the "entry into enemy territory" probably didn't go too badly for her. Of course the more extreme Fox contributors will probably crucify her, but that's to be expected. I do think that generally she's lost a bit of the momentum she had after the Presidential debate and the race is now very tight. The other thing that may come into play is this.... The world is in a mess at the moment...Kim is blowing up roads, the Chinese are circling Taiwan, Israel is about to bomb Iran and the war in Ukraine continues. The Americans are going to be preoccupied for the next three weeks and as the election day approaches will one of the 'nut-jobs' take advantage of the USA looking the other way to do something to ignite one of these situations. Re: Trumpled (Alternative Leading) - LP - 10-17-2024 Most rambled on about her being a few minutes late for the interview, no substantial comments at all! Re: Trumpled (Alternative Leading) - DJC - 10-17-2024 What's going on with Aurangzeb swaying to music for 39 minutes at one of his rallies? I guess that he made more sense during that time than he usually does. |
