I asked for a pot in the AFL members bar the other week and the young girl said we only sell schooners.

Perhaps part of the problem is the swing states aren't full Trump apparatchiks, and it seems the recent debate success has led Trump to become even more extreme.

Has this reduced trust or increased fear of reprisals that Trump is so open about, do the swing states fear that Trump's party cannot control him?

Parties don’t control presidents, never have and never will under the US constitution. That’s a fundamental difference between the US version of democracy and ours.

It's funny though
I've heard a number of Democrats in recent days refer to Biden as the 'leader of our party"

Isn't that the overriding fear surrounding Trump as the next President, they can't control him?

MCC Members is the same, Schooners or Pints, so not Melbourne of them!

I don't give a flying XXXX about all this stuff, as long as it's served cold, but I can't drink that SA rubbish!

Aurangzeb, through MAGA, now controls the GOP.

The overriding fear is, after seeing what he tried to do last time, that he will take full control with the help of his MAGA supporters.

He isn’t elected by GOP and the only way they can exercise any control is by not passing budget bills and/or impeachment.  That might prove difficult if MAGA is occupying the House and Senate.

We tend to look at the USA as a single entity, the same as Australia.
While we have subtle differences between states it's still quite an easy task to move to live from one state to another. I've lived in 3 different states and apart from an argument over potato scallops and the way Victorians pronounce Castle, there is not a great deal of difference.
The USA on the other hand is almost as diverse as Europe, and apart from a 'nearly' common language, there are significant differences.

I went to the us a bit over a decade ago. Spent about 6 weeks there state hopping.
Previously, i've spent about 6 weeks in europe, country hopping.
I probably visited as many countries in europe as i did states in america (around double digits for each)
I find things very similar between the 2 experiences.

Besides the obvious different languages of europe (and the different accents of america) the differences are numerous. From speed limits, to taxes, to traffic laws, to people and culture, to modern/historic, to cuisine.....its endless.

In Australia we have a handful of differences, most of which were mentioned already. I'd throw in 'footy' as another one that changes between states, but thats about it.

Re: Trumpled (Alternative Leading) - Macca37 - 07-08-2024

I've just read a news article which states that a neurologist specialising in Parkinson's disease has met with Biden's personal physician at the White House on seven occasions this year.

I also read some days ago that Biden's staff are terrified of his sudden outbursts of temper.  I worry that he is in the early to middle stages of Alzheimers disease and does not now possess the mental capacity to make a rational decision re staying in the race for the upcoming November election.
