Re: 2018 Jim Park Medal Analysis - crashlander - 04-05-2018 Right, let's consider Round 2. Not one of our better efforts. We rated the game 6.00. Getting a whole number is spooky enough, but a 6 represents E, something of a come-down after our effort in Round #1. We had our chance at pontificating as to why. How close to the 'truth' we get is interesting. Still, the great minds have met and the votes are in: Carlton vs. Gold Coast Votes: Curnow, Edward 226 Cripps, Patrick 157 Curnow, Charles 141 Fisher, Zac 92 Murphy, Marc 92 Petrevski - Seton, Sam 76 Mullett, Aaron 30 Simpson, Kade 21 Marchbank, Caleb 18 Thomas, Dale 16 Garlett, Jarrod 11 Jones, Liam 11 Wright, Matthew 7 Cuningham, David 4 The rating really affected the votes. Last week Cripps got 382. This week's leader, Ed Curnow, got 226. That is a hell of a difference. However, we had only 1 less person getting votes. We did some things right last week, but not enough not often enough. 17 people voted this week, down from 25 last week. That said, with such a terrible game, it is not surprising people did not want to vote. Simmo's game here really shows the dichotomy in his play as he gets older. Last week his judgement was near perfect. This round his judgement was as poor as it ever has been. Hopefully Round 3 will be like Round 1. Progressive Votes: 539 - Cripps, Patrick (0) 386 - Curnow, Charles (0) 260 - Simpson, Kade (0) 247 - Curnow, Edward (0) 169 - Marchbank, Caleb (0) 157 - Wright, Matthew (0) 127 - Fisher, Zac (0) 106 - Murphy, Marc (0) 82 - Petrevski - Seton, Sam (0) 39 - Thomas, Dale (0) 30 - Mullett, Aaron (0) 19 - Kreuzer, Matthew (0) 16 - Garlett, Jarrod (0) 11 - Jones, Liam (0) 4 - Cuningham, David (0) Cripps has got out to a small lead at this point. Charlie is coming 2nd, with Simmo and Ed Curnow close in 3rd and 4th. At this point 15 players have got votes in our 2 games. Re: 2018 Jim Park Medal Analysis - crashlander - 04-15-2018 Rd 3: Carlton vs Collingwood: what a disaster! We rated the game poorly, as would be expected. It actually scores a little better than last week, averaged 6.25, which represents an E+, more or less. I guess, as we lost by 4 goals, that it wasn't a total dead loss, but ... ![]() Carlton vs Collingwood; Votes: Casboult, Levi 252 Murphy, Marc 184 Curnow, Charles 115 Kreuzer, Matthew 109 Simpson, Kade 107 Curnow, Edward 66 Cripps, Patrick 29 Thomas, Dale 23 Fisher, Zac 21 Cuningham, David 12 Petrevski - Seton, Sam 8 Garlett, Jarrod 4 Kennedy, Matthew 4 Jones, Liam 2 Another week where the leader scored less than 300, but where few players scored even reasonably. 14 players deserved a mention, which is not that bad, as only 17 players have managed a mention over the 3 games we've had. 16 people voted this week, down from 22 for this round last year. But unless we play decently, people do not vote. I can understand that.Hopefully a good performance in the next few weeks will bring the voters out. Progressive Voting: 569 - Cripps, Patrick (0) 502 - Curnow, Charles (0) 367 - Simpson, Kade (0) 313 - Curnow, Edward (0) 290 - Murphy, Marc (0) 252 - Casboult, Levi (0) 169 - Marchbank, Caleb (0) 157 - Wright, Matthew (0) 148 - Fisher, Zac (0) 129 - Kreuzer, Matthew (0) 89 - Petrevski - Seton, Sam (0) 62 - Thomas, Dale (0) 30 - Mullett, Aaron (0) 20 - Garlett, Jarrod (0) 16 - Cuningham, David (0) 13 - Jones, Liam (0) 4 - Kennedy, Matthew (0) Patrick Cripps and Charlie Curnow have cleared out somewhat, with Simpson leading the chasing pelaton. Re: 2018 Jim Park Medal Analysis - crashlander - 04-22-2018 Rd 4: Carlton vs North Melbourne in Hobart. This has been one of the worst performances in recent years, as we were simply noncompetitive for much of the game. I haven't seen so many F's being given. A rating of 5.5 is an F+, probably the lowest rating since the days of Malthouse. However, for an interstate game we did get 16 votes, 3 more than the corresponding game last year. Votes: Thomas, Dale 223 Curnow, Edward 212 Cripps, Patrick 153 Wright, Matthew 56 Cuningham, David 56 Kreuzer, Matthew 31 Simpson, Kade 31 Garlett, Jarrod 17 O'Brien, Lochie 17 Kennedy, Matthew 14 Silvagni, Jack 14 Fisher, Zac 7 Mullett, Aaron 7 Petrevski - Seton, Sam 3 Jones, Liam 3 Surprisingly 15 players got a mention, but the last 8 of these scored 17 or less. Only the top couple made contributions of significance. Progressive Voting: 722 - Cripps, Patrick (0) 525 - Curnow, Edward (0) 502 - Curnow, Charles (0) 388 - Simpson, Kade (0) 290 - Murphy, Marc (0) 285 - Thomas, Dale (0) 252 - Casboult, Levi (0) 212 - Wright, Matthew (0) 169 - Marchbank, Caleb (0) 160 - Kreuzer, Matthew (0) 155 - Fisher, Zac (0) 93 - Petrevski - Seton, Sam (0) 71 - Cuningham, David (0) 38 - Garlett, Jarrod (0) 37 - Mullett, Aaron (0) 18 - O'Brien, Lochie (0) 18 - Kennedy, Matthew (0) 17 - Jones, Liam (0) 14 - Silvagni, Jack (0) Crippa has cleared out a little, but a nice little lead. The Curnow brothers are close for 2nd and 3rd. Simmo is a comfortable 4th. Re: 2018 Jim Park Medal Analysis - crashlander - 04-27-2018 Rd 5: Carlton vs West Coast at the MCG A small crowd of 27000 saw a much better Carlton, but not one good enough to win yet. Still, there were lots of positives to come out of this game. The rating was 8.02, which represents a C. That is very good considering that we did not win. There were also 19 people who voted this week, compared to 16 last week and 17 for the same game in 2017. Votes: Cripps, Patrick 397 Simpson, Kade 156 Jones, Liam 143 Fisher, Zac 137 Thomas, Dale 97 Phillips, Andrew 72 Rowe, Sam 61 Curnow, Edward 53 McKay, Harrison 49 Dow, Patrick 19 O'Brien, Lochie 8 Curnow, Charles 6 Casboult, Levi 4 Patrick Cripps had a huge game, with one of the highest scores ever for a non-win. 397 is massive. Surprisingly there were only 13 vote winners: there were more last year and last round! Progressive Voting: 1118 - Cripps, Patrick (0) 578 - Curnow, Edward (0) 544 - Simpson, Kade (0) 508 - Curnow, Charles (0) 382 - Thomas, Dale (0) 292 - Fisher, Zac (0) 290 - Murphy, Marc (0) 257 - Casboult, Levi (0) 212 - Wright, Matthew (0) 169 - Marchbank, Caleb (0) 160 - Jones, Liam (0) 160 - Kreuzer, Matthew (0) 93 - Petrevski - Seton, Sam (0) 72 - Phillips, Andrew (0) 71 - Cuningham, David (0) 62 - Rowe, Sam (0) 49 - McKay, Harrison (0) 38 - Garlett, Jarrod (0) 37 - Mullett, Aaron (0) 26 - O'Brien, Lochie (0) 19 - Dow, Patrick (0) 18 - Kennedy, Matthew (0) 14 - Silvagni, Jack (0) Re: 2018 Jim Park Medal Analysis - crashlander - 05-04-2018 Rd 6: Carlton vs Western Bulldogs: It is officially the worst start to a season that Carlton has ever experienced. We showed a bit, but we are still very light on at the moment and will be for a few more weeks. :-[ The rating for this game was 6.59, which represents a D-, more or less. This week 18 people voted, compared to 19 last week and 26 for the same round last year (which we won). :-[ Votes: Cripps, Patrick 385 Fisher, Zac 234 Thomas, Dale 145 Curnow, Charles 49 Kerridge, Sam 48 Casboult, Levi 35 Jones, Liam 29 Phillips, Andrew 29 Simpson, Kade 13 Curnow, Edward 9 Wright, Matthew 7 Kennedy, Matthew 4 Rowe, Sam 2 13 players managed a mention this week: we were either pretty good or pretty bad. And even the good ones made mistakes that lead directly to opposition goals. Progressives: 1503 - Cripps, Patrick (0) 587 - Curnow, Edward (0) 558 - Curnow, Charles (0) 557 - Simpson, Kade (0) 526 - Fisher, Zac (0) 526 - Thomas, Dale (0) 291 - Casboult, Levi (0) 290 - Murphy, Marc (0) 219 - Wright, Matthew (0) 189 - Jones, Liam (0) 169 - Marchbank, Caleb (0) 160 - Kreuzer, Matthew (0) 102 - Phillips, Andrew (0) 93 - Petrevski - Seton, Sam (0) 71 - Cuningham, David (0) 64 - Rowe, Sam (0) 49 - McKay, Harrison (0) 48 - Kerridge, Sam (0) 38 - Garlett, Jarrod (0) 37 - Mullett, Aaron (0) 26 - O'Brien, Lochie (0) 22 - Kennedy, Matthew (0) 19 - Dow, Patrick (0) 14 - Silvagni, Jack (0) Cripps is almost 1000 points ahead at this point and appears to be the early favourite. With our injuries, the competition isn't quite there yet. However, behind him the competition is fierce! There are 6 players in the 500's, followed by gap of about 200 to Casboult. Silvagni is at the foot of the leader board, but at least he has some votes. There are guys out there who have played and haven't bothered the scorer at all. It would be nice to see some of our recruits for this season in the numbers as well. None of them has scored more than 38 votes so far (Garlett, and he was dropped last week). Re: 2018 Jim Park Medal Analysis - crashlander - 05-11-2018 Rd 7: Carlton vs. Adelaide in Adelaide: Not a great performance and 50 + point loss. The rating was 6.11, which represents E. We had 15 people voting this week, down from 22 for this game last year and 18 from last week. Votes: Thomas, Dale 242 Curnow, Edward 238 Cripps, Patrick 122 Fisher, Zac 81 Kreuzer, Matthew 49 Dow, Patrick 35 Simpson, Kade 33 Wright, Matthew 29 Kerridge, Sam 29 O'Brien, Lochie 26 Garlett, Jarrod 16 Jones, Liam 8 Petrevski - Seton, Sam 4 Graham, Nick 4 14 players managed a mention this week, but only 3 managed 100 points or more. Dale Thomas was our best player for the 2nd time this season. Ed Curnow has 1 best player and 2 2nd best places. Patrick Cripps, 3rd this week, has only once been lower than 3rd. Progressive Voting: 1625 - Cripps, Patrick (0) 826 - Curnow, Edward (0) 769 - Thomas, Dale (0) 608 - Fisher, Zac (0) 589 - Simpson, Kade (0) 558 - Curnow, Charles (0) 291 - Casboult, Levi (0) 290 - Murphy, Marc (0) 248 - Wright, Matthew (0) 209 - Kreuzer, Matthew (0) 197 - Jones, Liam (0) 169 - Marchbank, Caleb (0) 102 - Phillips, Andrew (0) 97 - Petrevski - Seton, Sam (0) 77 - Kerridge, Sam (0) 71 - Cuningham, David (0) 64 - Rowe, Sam (0) 54 - Dow, Patrick (0) 54 - Garlett, Jarrod (0) 53 - O'Brien, Lochie (0) 49 - McKay, Harrison (0) 37 - Mullett, Aaron (0) 22 - Kennedy, Matthew (0) 14 - Silvagni, Jack (0) 5 - Graham, Nick (0) You might notice that Nick Graham got 4 votes above and 5 votes in the progressive. That is because the total is always rounded up. Re: 2018 Jim Park Medal Analysis - crashlander - 05-22-2018 Rd 8: Carlton vs Essendon Mirabile Visu! It was so good to defeat the old enemy. The rating was 8.98, close enough to a B for me. We had 17 voters this week, up from 15 last week and 15 for the same round last year. Cripps' lead is now merely 700, with Ed Curnow making a big move. Dale Thomas has also moved up to a distinct 3rd. After that things remain pretty close for 4th to 6th. Re: 2018 Jim Park Medal Analysis - crashlander - 05-24-2018 Rd 9: Carlton Vs. Melbourne at the MCG If we could erase this game from our memories ... What a disaster. His score really stood out from the rest. In fact, had we played like we did against Essendon, Cripps score would have been worth around 600. That was how we saw this effort. Comfortably in 2nd spot, Nick Graham's game appeared to have pleased nobody in the coaches' box: he was dropped for the game against Geelong, 6 days later. I not only find this amazing, but I am sure it will end up with Graham moving on at the end of the season. Quite surprisingly, 15 different players were awarded votes. This is unusual and tends to occur more when we win. I would scratch my head more, but for the fact that most of these votes were for cameos or effort. Kreuzer, for example, was thrashed in the ruck all day, but he still garnered votes because of his effort.
