Re: VFL 2021 Rd 1: Carlton vs Southport - ElwoodBlues1 - 04-17-2021 Some SouthPort Shark insights, they seem a well equipped club and have some old friends of ours playing for them. SOUTHPORT SHARKS Coach: Steve Daniel Captain: Andrew Boston, Seb Tape 2019 Result: 14-6, 2nd (NEAFL) Key Ins: Daniel Charlesworth, Jacob Dawson, Billy Gowers, Jesse Joyce, Brad Lynch, Connor Nutting, Leigh Osborne, Brad Scheer, Fraser Thurlow, Lukas Webb Key Outs: Timakoi Bowie, Lee Dale, Joshua Hall, Jack Mentha, Tyler Roos, Matt Shaw, Trent Stubbs, Jordan Taylor, Jed Turner Five Players To Watch: Tom Fields, Billy Gowers, Mitchell Johnson, Brodie Murdoch, Jesse Travaglini Summary: A perennial powerhouse in the AFLQ and NEAFL competitions, the Sharks are a club that should be able compete at this level long-term both on and off the field. They have recruited strongly off AFL lists and will be a challenging proposition to play against most weeks. It remains to be seen if they can find the 10 or 11 wins they will likely need to make the finals. Re: VFL 2021 Rd 1: Carlton vs Southport - crashlander - 04-17-2021 Stocker had to be BOG. He had an outstanding game. It is a pity that we couldn't hold on for that extra few seconds to get the win. I'll have to reserve my judgement on the 38, it could be 38 with zero contested. Not that surprising considering how we were thrashed in the ruck. We had a young kid, Alex Mirkov, as our only real ruckman. He has only been training for a couple of weeks and doesn't have the fitness yet. When he got the tap, and he got most of our taps, we got goals. He is very raw, coming from volleyball (?), but at 210 cm he had more than a little idea of what he was doing. The only other ruckman on our VFL list, from memory, is Aaron Gundry, who has been struggling somewhat with injury in the last few weeks. Also have Ed Delaney named at FB but more a forward/relief ruck type as a junior. But the stocks are thin, hence the late call up for Mirkov Re: VFL 2021 Rd 1: Carlton vs Southport - Thryleon - 04-18-2021 Looks a handy game by cunners. 25 possessions. Should be enough to start getting in. I think he might make good trade bait and we need to start playing him this season to lift his currency or value to our team. How old is he? Worth a mid-season draft spot? 210 blocks who can jump are hard to find. We can teach him the rest. |
