Re: AFL Practice Match 2021 Carlton vs the Drug Cheats - Professer E - 02-26-2021 I generally have as much regard for anything essenscum as a fresh dog log on the front lawn, but I'll make an exception and wish Hurley all the best because he needs it. Having fought staph myself he needs all the help modern medicine can give him right now. Re: AFL Practice Match 2021 Carlton vs the Drug Cheats - Baggers - 02-26-2021 Watched the game again and found a number of things to be pleased about or just plain interesting. These observations are framed with the full knowledge this was a practice match. Strong improvement in disposal by foot, especially after qtr time. We have a number of blokes who can quickly switch direction and wrong foot opponents: Zachery, Saad, Dow, Murphy, Williams, Betts, Jones (sometimes with our hearts in our mouths), Doc, SPS... etc. That goal coming from a Dow lightning hand off to Saad who ran through the middle and kicked truly to Crippa in the goal square was bloody awesome. Multiple goal kickers. Zachery is coming along beautifully as a small forward and is so quick that the defensive area of his game will panic/pressure many a back line opponent. For mine the biggest difference in the game of Dow was his confidence. It looked like he knew he fitted in whereas, in the past, there was a kind of hesitation. This bloke will only continue to improve... and he has the tricks. Pitto may not have had A grade opponents against cheats.com.au but I love what he brings to our ruck division - hardness and a genuine love of the contest. Just a dash of Wow Jones about him. Assigning Murphy to the role of small forward is playing him to his remaining elite strength - he is deadly around goals and can create them from nothing. Cuningham still worries me. Oozes skill but still vanishes for extended periods. All between the ears with this kid. Liked SOJ's game. Reads the game so well and has a fair-dinkum dip. You can just tell he loves the club. We have a bona fide midfield mix that will trouble the best. Yes, just a practice match but certainly one of the much better performances I've seen pre-season in quite a while. And I am well aware that 'one swallow does not a summer make.' Re: AFL Practice Match 2021 Carlton vs the Drug Cheats - capcom - 02-27-2021 I mentioned last year that Pittonet would be a good addition for the club. No reason to alter that opinion. Williams and Saad will have an immediate presence and place pressure on other players keen to contest for positions. An overdue changing of the guard perhaps. Sorta reminds me of the Buzz and Hunter impact in 1981. I really like his around the ground ruckwork and competitiveness but TDK might offer more in the centre circle. Agree. If you see this game as a portent for the home and away season, what you saw was 2 bottom 6 teams IMO. I shudder to think what the turnover count was for both teams. But history has shown it's pretty unwise to stress about scratch matches. There are so many variables and so many different approaches, it's hard to read exposed form in any meaningful way. Also agree about Pittonet. We got a pretty good glimpse of him last year. An honest player with some toughness. Will have some good moments, but has been and will continue to be exposed by the better rucks in the comp. Pittonet was dominating hitouts to advantage last year. He can't jump as high, but his ruck craft is very good, he'll work out his opponent and tap it down our throats when he does. Yes he's athletic ability is lacking compared to TDK.....but whose isn't!.....but its been so long since we've had an agressive ruck that can mark and kick that i think its a small price to pay. Who was our last aggressive ruck? Cain Ackland briefly.....Barnaby French barely....Big Nick?! :o Re: AFL Practice Match 2021 Carlton vs the Drug Cheats - LP - 02-27-2021 (02-27-2021, 01:01 AM)kruddler date Wrote:Who was our last aggressive ruck? Mids, wings and fwds ran hard to the backline to lend support. Setters, Dow, SOS, Fish, Ed to name a few all made their way quickly to the back line when required. Whether they were trailing their man or left him to get there I am not sure but there was effort to get back and lend support. |
