Re: The Journey - Tues 15/3 830pm Fox Footy - Jeffy38 - 03-22-2017 Such a good initiative. Gives the rank and file a good view as to induction into the club. Has anyone else seen the video on membership with Dave Hughes, Pang et al? So good! Whoever is in charge of marketing at the club now is doing a great job! Re: The Journey - Tues 15/3 830pm Fox Footy - shadesy - 03-22-2017 yep the Membership Video is really well done! Bolton takes no prisoners behind that happy exterior. They reckon its because his Grandfather was Sam and it is disrespectful to use the same name. Interesting, didnt know that. In Aboriginal culture, once a family member has passed they generally don't say that name again. So if Mary passes away and were to come up in conversation she would be referred to as Margaret's Sister, or Bob's Aunty etc. Re: The Journey - Tues 15/3 830pm Fox Footy - Gointocarlton - 03-23-2017 (03-23-2017, 12:06 AM)Navy Maven link Wrote:In Aboriginal culture, once a family member has passed they generally don't say that name again. Many Woiwurrung/Wurundjeri women are named Jemima after a particularly strong ancestor and cross-generational use of given names is common among Victorian Aboriginal families. There's still an avoidance of referring to a deceased person by name, at least for a few years and terms like "that old fella", "brother boy" and "sister girl" are used. In some places where traditional names are used, people are given an Anglo name because that can continue to be used when a shared traditional name must change due to a death. I met a bloke whose "Anglo" name was Musso, short for Mussolini. He was born in the late 30s and his brother's "Anglo" name was Hitler! If SPS wants to be called Sammo out of respect for his grandfather, then Sammo it is! Id suggest that this angle of the club has been performing well for years. The problem being is that often over delivered where our team fell over and people struggled to make the expectation match reality. Dunno about the marketing dept. Saw a punter on Facebook who sent in his membership form in November, still nothing back!! Re: The Journey - Tues 15/3 830pm Fox Footy - Thryleon - 03-23-2017 ^^ Different department. Have a think about our marketing over the years. Since 2009 or perhaps even when Judd came aboard, I have seen them do really good things. Our membership department has been the opposite. Marketing has been fairly consistent IMHO. Someone said the other day (forget who) that Bolton is a great leader/educator of young man, but is questionable when it comes to the senior blokes. That together with unknown tactical nous would be the only (potential) problems i see with him at this stage. Given we have a gun young team, and in need of a cultural change. He is certainly the type of person we need at the club at present. What happens 3 years from now? Who knows. The suggestion was that while he was "very good at turning kids into much better kids but not so good at turning them into senior footballers." It was reportedly said by a former player. It was posted on another site and referenced here...until there is something more concrete just treat it as hearsay. |
